Title: Bullet choice .
Post by: Jimij on February 04, 2018, 10:18:49 AM
Good morning weatherby nation and hello !
Iím new to this sight...and also new to weatherby ownership.
I just acquired a .257 Vangaurd...a Mark V .257...& a .270 wby mag Mark V Accumark.
So my questions are ... what significance does Accumark mean... and for killing 200lb white tail at ranges of 100-300 yards which bullet impresses the nation ?
The .270 came with 3 boxes each 130 grain triple shock,150 gr partition, & 150 grr spire point.
The .257ís came with 2 boxes 115 gr nosler ballistic tip.
Any thoughts would be appreciated

Sounds like a good start.257 is all you need for 200 pound deer.I would go to the Triple Shock bullet in the 257 as well.Accumark will have a much heavier barrel than the standard Deluxe Mark V and probably even the Vanny. The Accumark will have a composite stock with a bedding block in it for strength and accuracy. All will shoot good,I'm sure, once you find the brand, bullet, and load each likes.Don't try to make the rifle shoot what bullet you want it to.Let the rifle tell you what it likes. Not hard to kill 200 pound deer.

I have personally, used all the ammo you listed, and all of them work well, on both whitetail and mule deer. You can used any of the 270 Wby ammo you listed on elk and have no problems. Like 224 King posted, use the ammo that's the most accurate in your rifle, 200 lb deer are not hard to kill.  8)

Why would you take the composite stock off your Accumark and replace it with a Synthetic stock? My BS detector just hit the 25% mark.

I should have said composite instead of synthetic but I donít know the difference lol.
Reason for replacing is original owner cerakoted the factory stock green...and I mean ugly green... and I donít care for it.
I would like to return it to its original finish
Feel free to turn ur BS detector to a less sensitive setting
