Title: What dies are you using for your Weatherby?
Post by: CptnAwesome on May 15, 2018, 04:21:47 PM
What dies are y'all using? I've got RCBS for my 257 but not sure if I'm happy with them.

Looking at Lee (I've got them for my other calibers and like em), or maybe Hornady

I've used most of the standard brand dies over the last 35 yrs and I really like the Forster dies. Their high adjustable expander ball on the sizing die works great and their seater die does a great job.JMO

I've only used Forster dies second-hand, but they are fantastic. My personal dies are just about all Hornady. I seem to be able to load very good ammo with those dies, so I'm more than satisfied for the price. If I were shooting out beyond 400-500, I might pay the extra for Forster dies.

I used to use all C&H dies until they retired and went out of business

I have used RCBS dies for many years.  I never had a problem with them, ever.  I also use their neck sizer dies.

A lot of love for RCBS. All the good reviews is why I bought em. The problem probably lies with the person who set them up.

Until this thread I had never even heard of Forster dies. Looked them up on line... They look top notch.

yep, same markings as mine, but mine are really old, they are in red and black cardboard box. I don't recall where I got them, and I had never used the sized die of them, just the seater die a few times. They were in the stuff the crackheads didn't steal from my place, I might have to use them this fall, to make up some ammo.  ::)

Rob, l will be surprised if your dies don't work good for you.
Crackheads weren't smart enough to take the good stuff 😎

I use RCBS for my 270 WBY and Lee for my 300 WBY. I have Redding dies, too.  I like the included shell holder with Lee dies. I really like Lee's "factory crimp" die.   :)

I currently use RCBS on my .270Wby. They seem to work fine for the last 20 years. Although, after using Forster in some of my varmint calibers here lately (they are hard to beat in my opinion). Save a little more money up and spend it on Forster.

Hornady redding

RCBS has given me the worst bullet runout

RCBS and Redding.

I'm using a combination of Redding and Lee.  I sent Lee a case/bullet combo for my 257 Accumark and they built me a custom die. Not sure if it works but it makes me feel good.  :) It will shoot 100 grain Nosler BT's in a ragged cloverleaf if this old man can hold it together.  :o

I use RCBS dies for my .300 Weatherby.  I have both FL and a Neck Size dies, but mostly use the Neck Size die.

Most of my dies for other cartridges are also RCBS, but I also use die sets from Hornady, Lee, Pacific, and Herter's.

I decided to go with Lee FL dies for my 300Wby. We'll see how they work. Must get a neck sizing die in the near future also.

I have RCBS, Hornady and some 1980ish Weatherby Dies.  I find the RCBS and the Hornady have .004-.006 round out so i Keep going back to the Weatherby Dies, 001-.002 consistently.

Just my .02.....

Using LEE dies for my 300 and RCBS for my 257. Think I prefer the LEE dies personally.

Cheers

Same here. RCBS for 257 and Lee for 300.
After using the Lee does for a few months now I like them much better than RCBS.

I use RCBS dies exclusively and haven't had any issues with them other than a screw up on my part once.  One time I put a .300 Weatherby case in the press to resize and didn't realize it wasn't lubed and it got stuck, which is completely my fault.

Chris,I've said many times that RCBS should put a stuck case removing kit in every starter press kit that they sell.I've had stuck cases that were lubed get stuck.Just probably not enough on them. What the bad part is your starting a job and you get shut down completely when that case gets stuck. It's such a cheap and easy to use product.

I agree with you in that would be a great idea.  I can't complain a bit, it was my fault and only happened once in the tens of thousands of rounds I've loaded over the years so I guess I'm doing pretty good.

Redding. I do wish they made a bushing die for the 6.5-300, though.

I have mostly RCBS Sizing Dies (Neck and Full Length). My bullet seating dies are a mix of Redding and RCBS.

You could buy the 300 Wby type S full length die and the appropriate 6.5 bushing and you would be in business.
