Title: .300 Wby.Mag. German
Post by: omer on June 08, 2018, 06:29:41 AM
Hello Weatherby men. I am from Turkey. Having done quite some mountain hunting and I have 2 times Bezoar Ibex SCI No.1, in 1982 and 2002. I was presented an old Weatherby Mark V in .300 Wby.Mag. (serial no.-no letter-36063) by an old friend just before he passed away last year. Due to some reasons I was not able to go and shoot with it.
He was a diplomat and was posted in Afganistan in 1975-79, had shot the gorgeous Markhor , Marco Polo, several Asian Ibex  and Benghal Tiger in India than he was posted to Kenya and hunted Afrika all with this .300 Wby.Mag of his. Topped with a Leopold 2-7x33 scope and has Schwenk quick detachable German mounts.
Now I have this well experienced rifle. He had told me that he had re-barreled it. But even that newer barrel shows that was carried along in many hunts as its blueing had warn off near the left of the chamber and receiver of carrying it.
The barrel has no markings stamped on it I have no idea what make it is. He was sick when he presented this Weatherby to me (I recall that he mentioned that he had rebarreled it in Africa some where) but I did not ask why (as I don't think he would have weared off the barrel not going to the range)
My question is;
Do any body know if they were manyfacturing any Accumark at that time (1965s) in Sauer-Germany where they build it. It writes on it only Weatherby Mark V. May it also be a Delux as the wood is also nothing special.
I made a mistake not thinking that Weatherby Mark V may not have a floating barrel and totally floated it. Also pillar bedded it. I am waiting for the cartridges that I ordered and will go to shoot, to see what the results will be. The only cartridges I can acquire is Remington 180grn. Core-Lokt PCP. (Rifle cartridges are only imported by state company and this is only what they have) I need any advise you may give.
One last question, I acquired 40pcs. Weatherby branded (with Elk picture) 180grn. cartridges that say Norma and another 40pcs Weatherby branded (w. Weatherby graphic red-silver coloured) 180grn. that say "Partition". Would any of you know what type of bullets these old cartridge have on them.
Your help and advise will be highly appreciated.

Your friend must have been a pretty high up diplomat, to be able to shoot a Benghal tiger. Post some pics of your rifle and ammo, I'm sure 224king can tell you about the rifle. As for the ammo, the ammo that says partition, will be nosler partition bullets, and the other ammo, I'm not sure about. What do you mean when you say the ammo says Norma?? Is it headstamped Norma? Or does the box say Norma bullets?  ???

A ibex hunt in turkey is on my to do list sometimes, it looks like an amazing hunt.  8)

That is a very interesting story about your rifle
Your friend must have really liked to shoot if he had to rebarrel a 300 wby

I can't add anything to what catskinner has said

I would agree pictures would be interesting

Hello again.
Thank you for your views. I shot pictures of the rifle as well as the cartridge boxes. Adding them to my message is another issue, I will try to findout how. I may ask for my son's help though.
My late friend diplomat, rather than being a high up diplomat, he was an acquaintance of the Maharaca of Haydarabad's wife who wqas Turkish from Istanbul as he himself was. That's how he was invited by the Maharaca (actually the Nizam of Haydarabad of that time) to hunt the Tiger. He baited it with a live ox and waited on a nearby tree branch with his peasant.
None of the Asian hunts he made were professional organizations. Just finding the right people from the region. Good old days!

Sorry about the cartridges. Yes as said on one box with the elk picture it says "partition", and on the other coloured with big MAGNUM writing on it says "Nosler" on the side. Sorry does not say Norma.
If some one can tell me how to post the pictures I shot with my smart phone. I will gladly send them.

The ammo that has Nosler on it will be loaded with nosler partition bullets as well. I have never uploaded pic from a phone on here, so I can't help you with that. I save the pics from my phone to my laptop, then click on the "upload image or other options" link just below this chat box, and then upload my pics to here.

That is one hell of a Ibex in your avatar pic  8)

Sorry for my late below comment, I had gone out of the country for a week leaving aside all means of media, phone, email etc.
Thanks for my huge Bezoar. That is a 55 5/8" (141.5cm) long, SCI 130 total point trophy.
Meanwhile I try to post the pictures of my Weatherby but the sistem does not accept it. I will report it to the  moderator.
