Title: Weatherby YouTube Channel
Post by: HighDesertHunter on March 08, 2019, 06:43:11 PM

I was looking to see if Weatherby's June 13th grand opening announcement was on YouTube. It was not but there are several great videos on there. They're not new so most of the long time members here have probably seen them. The Channel is Weatherby Inc.

Here's a video that I watched today and thought was pretty good.

Too bad there isn't  You Tubes on this site from Nation members such as how too's, possibly hunts, whatever,  of course they would probably have to be reviewed by someone @ Weatherby for approval I would guess.

Let me look into that. We can post YouTube videos here so we should be able to create our own YouTube channel and post to here from that. I think it would be prudent to have the video's screened for content since we would never want anything offensive or controversial posted. I'll see what it takes to get it going and get back to you.

I post my pig hunt YouTube videos on here every now and then and they don’t require prior approval.

I would hope that the rutting boar and sow footage would not be offensive to women, but if so, how would we know? No wise cracks fellas.

I just checked it out and some kid named Cory has a channel named Weatherby Nation. It's like 5 years old and weird. DW5 is correct. If you want to post videos here then just get yourself a Gmail email account and setup your YouTube channel. Then you can post videos to your hearts content.

There is a plug-in for this forum software that would allow us to upload videos to a YouTube channel but it opens up all sorts of back doors and I don't recommend it. I ran several forums on this software at one time and know it well.

You'd know if the Weatherby admin deleted it I guess. They show that stuff on Nat Geo so why not here.

So I played around a little bit and reactivated my sleeping IT skills. I can now take video from Facebook and post it to my YouTube channel and then post it here. I'm processing the grand opening announcement now and will post it as soon as it finishes. It takes a while so please be patient. If this works, I'll continue to do this in the future when videos show up on Facebook but not on the Weatherby Inc. YouTube channel.

O.K., so it looks like my method for taking Facebook videos and posting them on the Nation is working. I'll try to keep up with it and get the videos from the Weatherby Inc Facebook page posted here.

Hey HDH, I don’t do the Facebooks so I’m not familiar with it but how do people post video to FB without using YouTube first? Does FB have its own compression software that they allow people to use and post video directly to the site? I can’t imagine they want to host the INSANE amount of video on there from users worldwide without it being compressed somehow... and, being not all that tech savvy, I kinda thought YouTube was the only ‘practical’ game in town...

What goes on Facebook is hosted on Facebook. Lots of servers and distributed storage running behind the scencs. MP4 is the typical compression method for video. YouTube and Facebook further compress that during the upload process. One of the other methods is to reduce the video quality. For instance, if you recorded the video at 60 frames per second, they might reduce that to 15 frames per second during their processing. You won't be able to tell the difference because they use smoothing techniques to make the transitions nearly invisible to the naked eye.

Huh. So FB does do their own hosting and compressing. Figured they might want to outsource it to save on the cost just b/c they could. But I guess when you are a billion dollar corporation cost/benefit analysis can look different...

No telling if it's outsourced or not, I would assume it is since it would need to be highly redundant and co-located all over the world or performance would suffer.

I do like that video. It is for hunters. The mountain, the forest ground, full nature, the trophy, the rifle, the man. It did cause me a freedom sensation. The every hunter dream. I dont post about if it is a good or a bad publication or Weatherby does good o bad I only think in that marvelous places and circunstances loved by every people like me. I love that world since I was a child. Perhaps I am going out of topic but it is what I feel seeing that beautiful video. Others opinions or critics to anybody or to Company, if it is good or bad, I let it for you that, in a definitive way, you are the true owner of all Weatherby space and world. I can dream in that world only. I am no very sure if concepts I want to explain are writen in a enough way  in order to transmit my feelings or ideas
Best regards, my northern friends.

I absolutley understand what you are saying Juan. You enjoy the video because it reminds you and connects you with a feeling about hunting and the outdoors that you love. You see the beauty and wonder that we all chase in every hunt come through in the video. It’s bigger than just a Weatherby thing.
