We have been trying to get a season here in Indiana. I have only seen one while hunting.

The wildlife tech where we have hunted in Colorado actually asked us to shoot any bobcats we see while deer hunting!! They do a lot of damage to the turkey and pheasant populations.

They are the worst things out the for whitetail fawns.Kill'em all

In Texas, non-game animals include (but are not limited to) the following: armadillos, bobcats coyotes, flying squirrels, frogs, ground squirrels, mountain lions, porcupines, prairie dogs, rabbits, and turtles. There is no closed season on these animals and a valid hunting license is required. They may be hunted at any time by any lawful means on private property. Note: Take precautions when handling Armadillos, as they could possibly be carrying leprosy.
I've hunted Texas for many years, but have never been fortunate enough to shoot a Bobcat. I've seen tracks, and caught glimpses of them but that's it. If I ever do get one, I'll do a full body mount.
Tom, it seems you have a lot of first hand experience with Bobcat affecting your deer herd, have you shot many over the years?

They are here in abundance.I have personally run them off from fawn kills on my property.My neighbors ranch foreman has 2 chest freezers full of them and is working on filling his 3rd.He catches 2 or 3 a week in a live trap on the creek.He uses a live rooster for bait.They can't resist him.They are quail and turkey killers too.While deer hunting I've seen them run turkey up against a high fence.They can jump 7 feet in the air and get a turkey trying to clear the fence without even trying.They are hard to call because they'll come to the call but they'll sit down and watch for a long time.You'll usually bust yourself as patient as they are.Lions are worse but not near the number as bobcats.

I have only ever seen one and that when I was a kid, maybe 50 years ago. Don't know why we wouldn't have them around. Fewer people in this country then 50 years ago. Fewer trapping as well.

I was raised that if you killed it you ate it. I ain't eat'n no bobcat. ;)
I haven't the interest or the inclination to sit down and do a literature review on the impacts of bobcat predation on deer or other species of wildlife and as usual there is a lot of unsubstantiated rhetoric and opinions when issues like this arise. I would assume that cars and trucks have a greater impact on deer than bobcats. Just yesterday I passed two dead does on the road going to town. Out of curiosity I slowed down and both had been lactating. So, somewhere there are fawns dying of starvation or being taken by predators...bobcats, coyotes, or dogs. Most likely there are more deer killed on our highways in a day than a bobcat could take in a lifetime.
Don't get me wrong, I oppose any regulations that curtail or ban legitimate hunting. I've never killed a bobcat because I never had a need too. I mean, what am I going to do with it after I kill it? I have no interest in a taxidermy mount, don't want to eat it, and as far as I know it's just out there working for a living like everything else. But I don't have a problem with you killing one. I may not like it, and if you killed one on my land I would probably run you off, but that's my right too. :)

Hmmm.Unsubstantiated rhetoric? I know darn good and well that there are easier meals for a bobcat to take in the wild.If so,why would a bobcat take an animal that could possibly wound it and maybe wound it bad enough to affect it's ability to feed itself and eventually die from starvation.This deer fought hard and I guarantee a full grown man would not have been able to even hang onto this deer and for a little bit of time that he did,he would have been injured.Bobcats do this and they do it often.

Hey,if you have plenty of quail,turkey,and deer on your place and you see an occasional bobcat,don't shoot it.If you have low numbers of game animals on your place and you see bobcats a lot.Take some out of the pool.
The only times I have let them slide in the last 20 years was one afternoon I saw 2 kittens playing in a heavily wooded area and when I drove by they instinctively ran up a tree.I couldn't bring myself to shoot one or both of them.The other times I've been in blinds after a specific buck and have not taken a couple adults because I thought I might have a chance at the deer I was after.A lot of times I see them and don't have a gun with me and I kick myself for not carrying one.Like Downeast says "it's your property" do what you want.I'm just telling you that they are deer killers and fawns are easy meals for them.People think of cats as mice and small rodent hunters.They are,but they kill deer too,and more than you think.

As the wheat harvest starts here locally.It reminds me of farmers telling me about how many fawns they kill with combines each season.There are so many ways that the fawn crop is affected.
