I recently acquired a Mark V in 300 mag. It came with the (I think Weatherby) single piece base but no rings. Are these parts I need to get from Weatherby or are there aftermarket ones that will work? If so, what is the ring mount type? Front looks like DD but I can’t figure out how the back ring would attach.
I did see the post by jetjock 77 which helped

Here’s what’s on the gun now.

It almost looks to me like a leupold base. Leupold standard rings should fix you up so you can burn powder. By the way. Welcome to the Nation.

Thanks hunter. I did snap a slightly blurry pic of the stamp on the rail. I’ll see if it matches anything that I can find on Leopold’s.

If it was my rifle, I'd remove the base and buy a set of Talley lightweight 1 pc mounts. Probably cost a little more than buying rings. Welcome to the Nation.

Second the Talleys. Slowly changing everything over.

Thanks both. I did look at them and a couple of others but have yet to find a set in 34 mm. May have to get another scope or maybe switch to a Picatinny rail.
-
What scope are you trying to mount?
I went with Leupold VX5HD 3-15x44 on the 300 and 257. Very happy so far.

If l am seeing this picture correctly, that is a R. If so it is most likely a Redfield base. How old is your rifle?

As far as I am aware the Leupold / Redfield are "supposed" to be interchangeable.
I like the idea of the one piece Talley, but only a lightweight rifle with a lighter scope.
My MkV's have either Warne bases and rings, or Leupolds. The Warnes work great but look a bit clunky and don't get very low on the rifle. The Leupold are DD on a MkV 9-lug and the regular DD front with windage adjustable rear on 6-lug actions. It seems that the DD is not available for the 6-lug MkV. The Leupold bases take a variety of rings and you only need rings to change the height for a larger objective or going between a 1" / 30mm main tube scope. I think the Leupold look more classical as well and is my preferred choice, although most wear Warnes.
I don't really like a one piece base due to unnecessary weight and sometimes impeding loading and ejection, although some argue that they add rigidity to a receiver

Price your rings and find out the Talley light weights are cheaper. I have used them on my 325WSM without any issues. ;D

EGW pick rail and Burris signature rings......best setup I have ever used, no ring marks either.

Ended up with a Crimson Trace 6-24x56. The tube is 34mm but as it turns out, Talley had these. Won’t be very close to the gun as they recommended the high ones for that big objective lens diameter, but we’ll see. Looking forward to trying it out.

Yes, I’m fairly sure it’s an R. Didn’t even know about Redfield. I’ll have to have a look.

Just pulled the 1 piece (Redfield?) rail off and there are pretty noticeable marks on the gun. Guessing the rail was added to hide these. Dang. Hopefully the Talley ones will cover the same marked sections.

That’s what I went with. Spent some time on the phone with customer service (very helpful) and then ordered them Friday and received them Monday. Can’t beat that!

Let us know how it shoots. If accuracy is lacking buy a bottle of BTE (bore tech eliminator), a nylon brush and scrub the heck out of it.
