Title: Isaias
Post by: Grouchy on July 30, 2020, 02:20:41 AM
I'm square in the middle of the 3 day cone for this tropical storm. It will be a break in my usual boring routine and a test for Andi. My weather appears to be going downhill starting Friday night.  :)

Yes, the news here says we are way ahead of named storms than ever before. I'm doing the way ahead of the crappy weather stuff now. I'd rather be ready and not need it......  Got the dog a 35lb bag of food.  I'll close up Rambo's old house as soon as the trash is picked up today. The containers need to be put away as they will float or fly away.  :)

Good luck.
Thanks!  I'm charging up all my toys and checking battery operated stuff. Doing the laundry and running the dishwasher will wait for a bit. I am anticipating looters and con men if it gets really nasty here.  :)  I can get Andi to bark on command if I imitate a cat hissing. The neighbor's cat is a favorite for her to chase.

Hopefully it goes in the opposite direction from you guys.  Good luck!

Thanks!  The weather service says 60% chance of showers tomorrow night with tropical storm conditions Saturday. Closing up Rambo's old house is 10 minutes tops. They have the shutters that just slide closed. Mine are a PITA under nice conditions. If it's windy, they are a really tough. Just finished mowing the yard. It may be a few days till it will be dry enough to do that again. 5 day turn around on mowing with all the rain lately!  I'll get my shutters out in a bit. Hopefully, this is just a drill. I'm too old for this stuff!   :)

When I lived in Homestead, I bit the bullet and replaced the regular windows with impact windows.  It was a huge incentive for when I sold the house. I still kept the old shutters to protect some of the big windows. The buyer was thrilled about the windows. :)

Now predicted to be a hurricane!  Of course, the difference is 1 mph in wind. it is so easy to be organized when it's just me and Andi! The very few living people here that don't have the China flu will most certainly catch it and die during our usual team work recovery from a hurricane, if you believe the panic driven press! LOL!

Kevin, what kind of shutters do you have? The 12" panels that fit in tracks?

We don't get this type of stuff here at all.

Good luck. Stay safe.

Yes, held in by drop in metal pins on most windows. There are 2 big drop downs on my Florida room that cover the long side and the rear windows. The toughest part is getting the shutters down from the overhead storage in my carport.  The shutters came with the house in 2002. The dog had me up at 03:00, jet to the john!  I am doing laundry now. In 2004, they shut down cell phones so not to interfere with 911 operations. Only calls to emergency services would go through.I tried and failed to get delivery food.  :)  The hurricane looks to remain just offshore now, but we are under tropical storm warning "till further notice".

Thanks!  I do a lot of this prep work because I remember being without electricity for almost 2 weeks in 2004 in 90 degree+ heat. Most of the area was on "boil water" restrictions. My city water is from wells and most are from surface sources, so I'm good there.  I do a have natural gas water heater and stove, so they work regardless. I have plenty of charcoal, too. You can do frozen pizza on the grill!  ;D

Got both houses closed up!  Could be a cat 2 by the time it gets near us!  The picture is a old one from hurricane Jean. there no trees in my front yard and just a cactus and a juniper in the back and not near the house.

I'm now under a Hurricane watch and tropical storm warning. My idjit neighbor is convinced it will miss us entirely and won't prepare at all. Does the word "grass hopper" apply? LOL!

Kevin, having been through some hurricanes myself, might I say your neighbor is a clueless dickhead. You may find that neighbor banging on your door when the winds whip up. Should you let them in... hmmm.

They won't show up. I have a "Trump 2020" sticker on the door. That will turn them away without a word.  ;D
the hurricane has slowed down, won't be near me for another 12 hours or so. Just a light rain right now. We have been upgraded to a Hurricane Warning as of 05:00. Had to enlarge the trigger guard for Andi's use.  :)

A cat in this house with Andi would be a total mess. Andi would terrorize a cat. She does now with the neighbor's cat. Andi's appearance is enough to deter the idjits.  :)
Wind is steadily picking up with no real rain yet. Probably 30+ steady wind with considerably higher gusts!

I figured that but Andi has no sense of humor towards a cat. I guess it just natural. She does chase anything moving, including lizards.
The hurricane has slowed it's forward progress. It's actually sunny out right now, The wind is kicking up.

LMAO!!!  A good reason. It to declaw a cat 😂😂

Grouchy, the mountains in DR & Cuba are probably doing their job and disrupting the hurricane.  Hopefully it will stay off shore 👍

I'd almost prefer a direct hit just to see the idjits reactions.  A guy across the street was told to remove a tree from his yard by his insurance company 5 years ago. It's still there. Too many of them are way to smart to listen!

Apparently your neighbors are Democrats. That would explain the stupidity. Looks like the storm (center) may stay offshore a bit.

My congressional district is 85% democrat. Stupidity is apparent on the lack of storm prep. "The government will save us"  LOL!

That's the girlfriends favorite word also. Only when she says it, it's so drug out its more like a sentence.😂

Sure doesn't look like your neighbor has been through a Hurricane before.
The trouble with it some of that could be bouncing off our house

He claims to be a lifetime Floridian. His wife is from Washington D C. I do believe they are both former condo owners, meaning somebody else did the prep work. I had the street sigh bounce of fmy shutters in 2004, no damage! Their stuff get in my yard, it will be out with the trash on Monday. They do have a vary cool cigar store Indian in the yard. It might just look good in my living room.  ;D

Just finished helping my new neighbor close up and the skies opened up!  He says he never had a white man reach out to help. I said get used to it. We all pull together in deep shit.  Winds gusting into the low 40's so far!  We used to make jokes that it isn't a hurricane in only double digit winds. I kind of feel I deserve the full brunt  of it for all the prep work I did. The tough part is on Andi.  I will never forget President Bush handing me ice and drinking water in 2004 at our fire department! Biden would screw that up!  ;D

They almost never sit outside. They barely just mow the lawn! He is afraid of work. Retired used car salesman with plenty of shit with him! She is his grumpy boss.
The wind is only gusting into the 40  mph range now and it looks to be the worst of it.  It's barely raining. Funny part is the next door neighbor's sprinkler system is running! ;D  Andi is doing pretty well through it.

There is another not far behind this one. When the current storm made the weather service look like they cried wolf, people will listen to them even less next time.

Carnage sells

Panic sells, like the China Flu and The national weather service saying yesterday "Rush to prepare for a hurricane" There must be at least 2 tree branches down in the entire neighborhood! Just saw a guy walking down the street in the  rain taking pictures of every house. Guess I'll go open up Rambo's old house so it looks like somebody is there. Maybe even move the old Buick around in that drive. I do have my 2 friends with me, S&W.

M&P Shield 45 is my typical carry. My 57 has a 6" barrel and weighs several tons.  :) I do carry my Ruger 380 pretty often .
