Title: Custom Weatherby Backcountry 6.5 RPM
Post by: wyominghunter on September 16, 2020, 08:33:38 PM
I assume everyone has tinkered with the custom rifle builder on the Weatherby website. I am mulling over ordering a custom Mark V Backcountry in a 6.5 RPM (photo attached)

Has anyone been contemplating the same thing? Any thoughts?

I'm thinking about doing something similar from the custom shop. I handled a Backcountry and I didn't care for the straight stock, personally, it just didn't feel good to me.  So I was thinking about ordering a custom Weathermark LT in 6.5 RPM, action blueprinted and trued, and with custom colors. It would weight around 5.9 pounds which I could live with easily, have the stock design, I'm comfortable with, and won't have to be stored muzzle down. With them offering the Weathermark LT Limited with the spiral barrel fluting, I'm going to have to do some more inquiring if they will offer the spiral barrel fluting option in the custom shop. If will wait a few months easily, if they are going to, so I can get that option also.

My brother-in-law just got a Vanguard Meateater with a spiral fluted barrel. We got it for him for his birthday. It is a cool rifle and I do like that barrel. Shooting well so far!

Is the Spiral fluted barrel a #2 or #3 barrel?

It is a #2 on the Vanguard... not sure about that Weathermark LT.

I am fairly impressed with the Vanguard Meateater rifle. Not too heavy, I like the looks, and it shoots well.

I’ve contemplated waiting for the 6.5 RPM to be chambered in the Vanguard. I foresee that in the next year or so.
