Brand new to the forum!!! LOVE Weatherbys. I inherited my dad’s Weatherby Eighty-Two shotgun and just lucked my way into an Ascadero,CA marked Mark V chambered in .300WBY and with a beautiful stock on it.
My crazy ideas are as follows: 1) change out the stock for a carbon fiber one from AGComposites
2) shorten the barrel to 20” and thread it for a brake. I listened to a Gunwerks Podcast and they discussed shorter barrels and I only shoot critters out to 500-600yds max anyway and being former military I prefer them shorter.
I guess my main question is about the barrel. Is it feasible to do with a factory barrel or should I just buy a BSF carbon fiber barrel and start from scratch

Welcome to the Nation. Personally I’d shoot the 300 before doing anything and then leave it full length and add an accubrake. It’s only 2 inches. Nothing wrong with a wood stock and considering everything you want to do it probably would be cheaper to buy a new rifle with a shorter barrel.

If you want a shorter bbl in a .300 Wby, I'd suggest you get a Vanguard in .300 Wby and modify it. That way you will have what you want while maintaining the value of an unmolested Mk V.

The only real reason I wanted to change the stock out was because it is damn near an exact match to the wood on my Dad’s shotgun, and I don’t wanna mess it up out hunting. So, yeah. I am pretty sure I am just gonna keep that one around as a collector and find a different one to make a project
