Pretty good experience.

When comparing apples to apples, leupold tends to offer some lightweight scope options, they have good eye relief too I believe.

I've had a leupold or 2 that was too tight to adjust the power magnification, sent it back they fixed free of charge etc... was a pleasure to deal with.

My personal belief is get a VX3 or better... although I do have a slug gun scope the ultimate slam that's quite nice too.

I like the B&C reticle a lot!

not a bad round,

could always get the .340 Wby!

same diff between the 30-06 and the 300wby.

and the 340wby is just plain awesome!

I'd get the weathermark hands-down! or maybe the accumark.

stainless and synthetic is my go to from now on!

I thought they banned handguns in Canada like 20 years ago?

anyone know for certain the deal?

I don't see the need for either of those for what you mentioned...

the 257wby is way more popular than the 270wby, ammo probably more easily found, although not popular like a .243win or 270win, etc...

of those game animals I think you need like a .243win and a 270win, or maybe just a .25-06rem.

You could get a 243win and a 7mm Rem.Mag. too.

weatherby chambers a lot of these cartridges too btw,

I'd prefer the 160grs for elk actually over the 175.

flatter shooting, think many 160s have a higher BC than the 175s as well, and in a premium bullet, take your pick, tsx, NP, swift, etc... they'll all be plenty for elk.

They need a vanguard in a 340 with a 24"  barrel
talk about a sweet setup to break out the wallet for!

I'd add some variety.

257wby
300wby
340 Wby.
They donít have the .340 in the Vanguard line or I would. I have the .257 and had a .300 but got rid of that one cause someone gave me more than what I had in it.

Don't want an abortion? Don't get one.

don't want a gun? don't get one.

pretty sure the .22-250 may already be chambered and will smoke the .224 val and WAY more popular.

the 224 val only benefit may be in ar15 platform rifle cartridges, but even in the setup I fail to see the benefit.

3-15x gets my vote.

to me 20x on the high end for hunting it too high in most situations.

depending on your reticle... zooming down may not be ideal... but if so then I guess it wouldn't really matter.

depending on the use 3 vs 4x shouldn't matter much, but dangerous game you'd maybe want 1 or 2x instead.

finding game in a hurry when a scope is cranked up to 15 let alone 20x can be a bit tricky.

so unless we're talking 600-1000yd shots here I think I'd go 3-15x route.

good luck.

Was that all high fenced?

How was that experience in your opinion in general?
Anything you really liked and/or really didn't like?

Congrats on the trip!

agreed on the case... who cares if it's still in tact and protected the rifles. that's character, etc... they're built tough for a reason.

there's something to be said for best cartridge vs. best/most popular cartridge. Especially for the non-hand-loaders.

plus the latest and greatest bullets etc... and loads will always be available first in the most popular cartridges.

Thanks again gents for the added comments.  I just found out that I was steered a little wrong in the caliber restrictions department.  In NM 24 is the smallest caliber legally allowed for elk so her 243 would be legal.  That being said I will continue with our quest for a new rifle and a larger caliber .  She will always have her 243 but I will go ahead and get her a Weatherby .  As stated I do own 240 through 340 in the WBY calibers so I will let her try them out and see what she thinks of the recoil.  I don't suspect her to be recoil sensitive but you never know. Maybe we can get out this weekend and give it a go.  I also own several other calibers in everything from 220 swift thru 300 Win mag but No left handed models in the bunch.  Being a WBY fanatic I will exclude all of those calibers and only take out my WBY's to try. Once she decides on a WBY caliber if she wants something else down the road she can get that one herself😂!  I lost my son to the dark side sometime ago 😔! He opted for a custom 30-06 I had . He always like the stock and the way it fit him. He also liked the fact he could walk into any Town and country feed store, mom and pop shop or Walmart and pick up a box of shells for 20 bucks. ( He always was smarter than me).  I hope to keep his sister on track. Thanks again gents I will keep you posted and see where we land !

you may consider the 340 wby!

high BC options....250, 265, 300...

and a 180/200gr from a 340 will smoke a 180/200 from a 300, and I think is right near what the 30-378 can do!

split the difference, 6.5-300wby?

off the top of my head I was thinking 257wby, being one of the most popular and great for most game, some may say it's a great elk cartridge, I would say it's on the light side. but then again can she use it for 90% of her hunts and when needing something bigger use something else or get a 2nd gun?

btw weatherby does chamber many rifles in 7mm Rem. Mag. which is a great round as well. and way more popular than any wby cartridge especially the 7mm wby, I think far and away the 257 and 300wby are their 2 most popular.

I think any of the 257, 270, 7mm wby, or 7mm rem mag. will do the job.
I think the 257 would be more pleasant to shoot 95% of the time too.

good luck! keep us posted.
