Rifles / Re: info on vanguard select

I came across a Select with a Stainless barrel for sale on GB.    I talked to the seller and he mentioned it was a special run that Weatherby did.   I only saw it available in 243 Win however.

Once you get your reworked bolt back from Weatherby, it should have the "S" &  "F"  letters clearly visible in white and red on the rear bolt body.    I have  an older Vanguard VGX that needed the bolt recall work as well.    Weatherby is very efficient in handling this particular recall work.   I think I had everything handled in the span of a couple weeks or so.

You can also find some good deals on E Bay on reloading manuals; especially if you don't need the latest/greatest edition from any particular company.

Thanks for the info Arnold!   I will check out the the T-Grips site.

I know Weatherby made changes to their Mark V in 2016; one of which included a wider trigger shoe.   Perhaps they will make a similar change to the Vanguard line!    It would seem to be a relatively inexpensive change that would definitely add to the existing appeal of the rifle, IMHO.  ;)

Thanks 224 K !     Any suggestions on where to look /brands etc?   I did a quick perusal on E-Bay but didn't see anything that caught my eye as far as a viable solution.      Open for suggestions..  :)

Thanks again for the input.

Rifles / Wider trigger shoe for Vanguard
« on: June 06, 2016, 10:54:16 PM »
Okay,  so if there is one complaint I have on my Vanguard it's the fact the trigger shoe is about 1/8" less wide than my Rem 700 BDL trigger.    I found that I definitely like the wider shoe on the 700.    I really like both rifles but the 700 has the edge in the trigger dept.   :-)  That said,  I was curious if there are any sort of aftermarket shoes or some kind of "slip on"  gizmo which would would provide for a wider shoe on the Vanguard.    I'm not interested in swapping out the trigger assembly for a Timney or anything along those lines.     Hopefully not a goofy question, but it doesn't hurt to pose the question out in the "Nation."     :)

I agree.....       I like the all black stock on the Select.

(I also liked the different color stocks of the WBY -X line.  Too bad some of them were discontinued.)

I also started a thread on the Select model back in January; as I was curious about any differences between it and the existing  S 2 Synthetic.

Below is Ed Weatherby's response:

The new select is identical to the synthetic except it does not have the soft grip inserts.

Rifles / Re: Weatherby Vanguard Barrel Contours

Not sure if this helps any, but the Weatherby catalogs do post the barrel contour info in their specs section for all the rifles.  It looks like the majority of the Vanguards have a #2 contour barrel;  while it appears many of the Mark V's have a combination of 2's & 3's.

Thanks DW.       I picked up that beauty off of GB last year;  box, manual and all.     There is nothing fancy on top.   Just a Tasco 3X9X40.    I'm not a hunter and have zero complaints about that scope so far.   I can kiss the steel gongers no problem with it on the range.    So far I enjoy shooting 120 gr pills; nice and speedy with less recoil.  ;D

Yes,  the Vanguard options are pretty awesome.   The 2016 lineup in particular is impressive.     Ahh.. choices, choices!   ;)

Thanks Ed for the input...   Much appreciated!

Rifles / Question on Vanguard Select (new 2016 model)
« on: January 26, 2016, 10:35:45 PM »
The new Vanguard "Select" rifle seems very similar to the existing S 2 Vanguard Synthetic with the exception of the all black stock and a slightly less expensive price tag.

I do not own a Vanguard synthetic but am considering one.   The new "Select" model caught my eye as I actually find the all black stock a tad more appealing than the  two tone stock of the regular S 2 Synthetic model.

I was comparing the features of the two rifles and on paper they seem essentially identical with the exception of the stock nuances.

Anybody have a new Select yet..?   Are there other differences between the new Select model and regular Synthetic Vanguard to be aware of?

Thanks for any input!
