Thanks for the warm welcome.
Im actually hoping to locate a Japanese 24 model.
Can anyone that owns one of these fine rifles tell me what the internal mag box length on the 22-250 version measures?

No matter the cal,224 Weatherby Mag or 22-250,the magazine box mics 2.525 inches

The spire points give the arrow effect on any distance over 300 yards.Even when shoulder shooting.I have gone to the 85 grain TSX factory load. They realyl pop deer if you hit at least one shoulder. Our big deer here are 185 pounds with the norm around 145.They are easy to kill with shock when they are small and the TSX does this perfectly.

Is there any way of doing a little break in at the place you are shooting?Sounds like you have a rough barrel.Shoot some groups then clean.Shoot a group and clean. It will get better.I've never done the break in by the book. Some barrels are rougher than others. So I just play it by ear so to speak. If I have one that fouls real bad I'll spend more break in time with it.If I'm shooting several rounds with very little fouling I tend to just start using the rifle and not worry about the break in process.

Get some once fired brass off of gunbroker.com or buy some spitzer ammo for cheap and shoot the rifle some more and save that brass.Having a 270 and a 7mm Weatherby mag I wouldn't mix the brass. You won't like it too much when you accidently shove a 270 headstamped round that's got a 7mm bullet in it,into your 270 and shoot it.

I only have a couple I'd sell. All my other Varmintmasters are in 224 Weatherby Magnum.

Build up a copper brush with paper towels or use a 20 gauge barrel swab maybe.

Clean chamber

You'd be money ahead buying a S2 Vanguard or another rifle IMO.

I got to get this thing cooking.3300 with a 20 inch barrel is awesome.Didn't ever think that I could get that out of a 250 Savage, but you do have the bigger case with the AI version.I'd really like to be able to not have to handload for mine if I didn't want to.So I'm kind of hung up on the non AI 250 Savage

Looks like I'm good to go with this to 200 yards.2400fps and over a 1000 foot pounds of energy. That ought to open the petals of the Barnes 80 grain I'd think.

Already have the rifle and scope I'm going to use.Just need to get a barrel with the same contour as the 24 inch Varmintmaster. Then find a smith to do it.I'm wondering if Weatherby's custom shop could get her done for me?

Do you have any guess as to the MV at 200 yards?Do you know how far out it takes your bullet to go under 1800FPS with your particular load?I'm interested, because I've always wanted to turn a Varmintmaster into a 250 Savage.I'm on the fence about going with the AI version. Also wondering about the velocity differences between 20,22,or 24 inch barrels if you could help with any info I'd be thankful.I'm thinking about a 22 inch barrel.I don't think I would shoot anything over 200 yards either.Main use would be a carry all the time rifle.Truck,UTV,walking.A utility rifle really with a little more thump than the 224 Weatherby Magnum.

If it's a rifle that's going to be used I wouldn't do anything to the character of it.Just hunt it and add your own character to it.
