Rifles / Re: New Accuguard Problem
« on: April 12, 2018, 05:08:41 PM »
Hope your problem is solved!  I'm from Canada and was hoping to not hear of the hassle you are having with Canada warranty service.

Weatherbyman22, this tightening the rear guard screw before the front guard screw is new to me.  My mentor, God rest his soul, informed me to snug both guard screws up! but torque the front first and then the rear.  I have done this for 50 years on all my rifles and it seems to work.  No real accuracy problems and the barrel Chanel spacing seems to be rather even.  I have three Weatherby Mark V's, two synthetic stocked and the other very nice piece of Deluxe wood.  I have tightened the guard screws wrong I guess, but the shot groups and barrel Chanel spacings seem to like what I did.  Is this a recommendation from Weatherby?

My problem was with .257 WBY 100 gr. Spitzer in the new Weatherby box.  had my WBY ACCUMARK in that calibre for two years and have not had one miss-fire in at least 200 shots both factory and/or reloads.  However, it was -20 F, and I thought maybe the fireing pin was sluggish so did a thorough cleaning of the bolt assembly and have had no problem since.  I haven't shot on a colder day either.

Rifles / Re: Japan Made WBY Mark V Deluxe 30/06 with 9 lug bolt?

The magazine follower fits tight to the rear of the magazine box but it can shift laterally from side to side and it will only hold three cartridges of 30/06 before it shifts and the last one falls out.  I don't think it should be able to shift that way cause the manual says it should hold 5 in the magazine.  Tried it at one hundred yards today-three shot group 1 1/4".  Not bad for some cheap federal 180 gr. Factory loads. More than pleased.

Thanks Dubyam and 224King.  The magazine well as well as the spring and follower of this rifle is a bit sloppy. As this was purchased second hand at a gun show, just wondering if it had been tampered with in this area.

I have a WBY Mark V Deluxe in 30/06 but the bolt has 9lugs when all the info says they should have 6 lugs.  gun was manufactured in Japan.  Can you help me as I want to purchase bases from Warne to fit?  Thanks.

Just made the trade and it looks good.  One question?  Does the magazine follower seem a bit sloppy on those Mark V made in Japan?   Thanks

Thanks Dubyam,
it does have some bluing off the muzzle, however the rifling looks supberb.  I know the Weatherby calibres are more valuable but the wood is very nice with a few scratches but nothing deep.  The owner will trade me straight up
for a very nice Pre 64 model 70 Win featherweight in 30/06 that does shoot very well.  I like the idea that it is left-handed where as the Winchester is not.

What would be a fair value of a WBY Mark V deluxe with very nice wood, however it has seen some use as a hunter.  Chambered in .30/06.  It is left handed which I want.  Thanks guys.
