That's good news I won't have to lap the Talley rings! I just worry about getting the cross hair's perfectly aligned. Any tips on that?

Thanks for all of the advice!!! I Gorilla taped the vice grips, and the screws came out without the need of the heat gun. Now, I took the gun apart for a wipe down. Next order of business is to call Talley Monday!!! I was thinking about buying a Wheeler scope mounting kit, as I imagine having a gunsmith lap the rings & mount the scope would be about the same price. What do you guys think?

I am going to give it a shot today after work, so I will post up how it goes. My scope got to Leupold on Thursday, so I'm hoping to have it back by the end of the month. My son bought me another box of the 130gr SP's :), now I'm really dying to get this all sorted out so I can hit the range!

I've been working on the house all weekend long, but I'm grabbing some vice grips on my way home from work. I really hope I can get that short screw out without scratching up the finish. Anyone have any tips? I was going to use some tape, but I'm going to use the heat gun to loosen up the locktite?

I just drilled both out, and got the base off. The one screw I did get to come out with the screw driver, did have a lot of locktite on it. I can't find my vice grips, so I will pick up a pair tomorrow. One of the screws I drilled out is pretty small, so I will probably hit it with the heat gun first to soften up the locktite.

Unfortunately, only one screw came out, and the other two stripped out.

I'm gonna give the screws a try tonight, hopefully they don't strip out!!!!! I'm assuming I'll probably need high Talley rings due to the objective lens being 50mm?

I got the scope off, but the first mount screw I tried just about stripped out. I sprayed them with WD40 and will let them sit, then spray them again in the morn, and try again after work. I am going to take your advice, and get the Talley rings & bases. I just hope I can get the screws out!!!

Well, I went to the range, and it was both good & bad! The good - The gun was flawless, perfectly manageable recoil, functioned 100%, and that gun has the sweetest trigger I've ever shot!!! Now for the bad, the scope's windage turret is screwed up. I made 1 shot at 100 yards (couldn't get a spot at the 25 yard range), not even on paper. The guy next to me told me I hit the dirt to the left of the target. So I aimed at the far right of the target board, at a little orange sticker that was there about 16"-18" to the right of the bullseye. This time I hit about 1" above the bullseye. I make my adjustments 1/4" a click at 100 yards. I adjust for 12" just to see if I'm on paper....nope. Adjust for 2" more nope, 2" more nope, finally 2" more and that felt like that was as far as the adjustment would go. Still hitting in the exact same spot, to the left of the target. So I start aiming at the little orange dot way to the left of the board, and it's hitting in the exact same spot as the first time I aimed way right. I moved to the 50 yard target, and got the exact same results. The scope never changed its point of impact, even after all of those adjustments. The good news is it's a Leupold, and I can send it in for service!!! Last night I went over the gun and made sure all of the screws were not loose, and everything was good. I'm pretty disappointed, as I was hoping to shoot some nice groups. Although, the one group I did get by aiming way right at the orange sticker was pretty good. I'm sure Leupold will make things right with the scope. I absolutely love the gun, I could have shot it all day long, the recoil was not bad at all, and that trigger was awesome :)

After looking at LOTS of pictures of Mark V Alaskan's, I'm convinced my stock is an Alaskan stock. I'm just dying to see how it shoots this Sunday!!!!!
