Rifles / Need help with barrel contour
« on: January 01, 2018, 01:31:53 PM »
Does anyone actually know what barrel contour number weatherby used for the 6-lug mark V ultralight in 338-06?

It's not the same as on most non-magnum ultralights - it's bigger than my old 280 was. So I assume it's what bell and Carlson call the #2?

I emailed weatherby but the girl who contacted me didn't seem very sure of herself. First she said #1, then started to doubt it when I said the 338-06 had a larger barrel contour than the others.

I'm in Canada so if I jump through the hoops of importing a stock, I want to be sure I get the right one.

Any help is appreciated.

Rifles / Ultra-light replacement stock options
« on: March 22, 2010, 11:17:04 AM »
First, I am sorry if this has been covered already - the search function and me dont get along. :-\   I have a Ultralight in 338-06, and I had it out of its stock today, and weighed the stock. It came in at 2lbs 5oz.  Although the rifle as a package is quite light, the stock isnt.  Are there any lighter options?  Mcmillan lists one for the Mark V's but it says their forends are wider than the factory models to handle any of the calibers - so I dont imagine its well suited for the ultralight series. Any other stock makers down there offering a true ultralight stock for them?
Thanks in advance.

Whitetail Deer / What is your most memorable Whitetail?

Your first?  Your biggest? Your hardest won?  Lets hear some stories of the one you will remember best for the rest of your life, and why its is so special.  (pics are great too :))

Mine would be my first. I was very excited about having the chance to finally hunt, but  it was pretty nasty out with a stiff wind, and snow. My brother took me out after school. After sitting awhile we saw some does headed our way - just when I was about to take a doe my brother said "stop - buck" (It was the third week in November and the bucks were in full rut.) Out stepped the biggest buck I had ever seen  :o I took careful aim and squeezed the trigger...."click". Between a weak firing pin spring, and the cold turning any lube/moisture in the bolt to sludge it wouldnt ignite the primer.  But the love crazed buck had other things on his mind and didnt pay any attention to use. I recocked the rifle and tried twice more before it went off.  To make an already long story short-er I got my buck and was the happiest hunter on earth. I have since shot many bigger, but none more special.

Reloading / Reloading the 338-06.... is it safe?
« on: June 29, 2009, 12:28:14 PM »
Okay, I hope someone can clear this up for me. I bought a new Weatherby Ultra-light in 338-06 a few years back. I want to start loading for it, but have a few concerns. All of the fired cases seem to have a line near the case head that show quite a bit of expansion. :o Its like it has a oversized chamber. I tried to show it in the pic, but it didnt turn out great.  When I phoned Weatherby, and the girl I spoke to said there was nothing wrong with them, and they are safe to shoot. I worry sizing/firing  my cases is going to weaken this "bulge" and lead to serious problems.   I wish I could get a straight answer from someone who actually knows.....thats why I joined this forum. :) Any help is great!
