Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Sad News

My wife lost her battle with ovarian cancer today and died in my arms.. I would like to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers and messages. Especially Chris, Roger and Eric for your PMs.

Jean and I were married over 40 years and I can honestly say I've never meet a nicer human being. She was the office manager at a small church and would empty the cash out of her purse to give to the needy when the outreach fund was empty. And would even give her own lunch to someone in need. And on top of that she put up with me, if she's not in Heaven theres no chance for me!?

Since 6/1/2016 she had 27 rounds of chemo, 3 major surgeries and 2 life threatening infections. She finally succumbed to not eating after her bowels stopped working after being resectioned. At least she's not suffering anymore, what a horrible disease!!!  :'( :'( :'( :'( Doug

Finally pulled the plug on a new 6x14 Yetti fish house! It comes with a pull out couch and a bunk, room for a couple cots too. It has 6 holes for ice fishing and a panel pulls out so you can spear fish too. Microwave, oven and 3 burner stove along with a forced air furnace will make it a lot more comfortable ice fishing this year. I'm hoping to make it up to Lake of the Woods soon depending on ice thickness and my wife's health.

I just saw this announced on Facebook, proud to see Weatherby catering to the female sportswoman. I Love the look of the camo on this rifle!!

We are officially launching a Mark V Camilla in Sitka Sub Alpine today.  I am super excited about this project and the continued expansion of our women's specific rifles.

I noticed this on Facebook and thought some of you might be interested in listening to Adam answer questions, etc on the 2018 catalog.

Today at 1:30pm PST, join Adam Weatherby LIVE for a discussion of our 2018 New Products. Post your questions in the comments below and we'll cover them during the broadcast.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Colorado elk hunt update
« on: October 27, 2017, 10:36:19 AM »
Every day my buddy glassed between about 50-200 elk in different bunches on the mountains across the valley (it was a good 45 minute ATV ride to get there by trails), unfortunately there is no off trail ATV travel allowed. It took about an hour to hike up the mountain to were we observed the elk feeding 3 days in a row. Three times I drove and then hiked up the mountains to glass and then hopefully shoot a cow elk out of a small bunch we had observed in different areas feeding, unfortunately they either moved on or had bedded down before I arrived each time.

On Wednesday morning before it warmed up enough to pack up for the trip home, we observed 2 additional groups feeding were I had been standing the day before. The highlight of the trip was still hunting in the snow within 30 yards of a huge bull moose that was feeding in a patch of thistles, we also saw 5 other moose feeding in the mountain willow patches.

Every time I go elk hunting in Colorado something bad happens and this time it was the worst. On Tuesday my daughter called and said my wife had been admitted to the hospital with a blocked intestine, they found cancer again too but no plan of attack yet until the blockage is cleared. So I cut my trip short by 5 days and am at the hospital after a 1,400 mile drive.

I know a bunch of you belong to the the MarkV Group on Facebook, it has disappeared on my Facebook account and I was wondering if it was shut down or if it's just my account?

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / October 1st

I noticed this on Facebook, a picture of the new Mark V Altitude. Supposed to be some other exciting new products announced October 1st also.

It was 57* F when I woke up this morning so I decided to start breaking in my new Arroyo 340 Weatherby. I used Talley one piece mounts to put a Leupold 4.5-14x40 VX3 scope on my rifle. The first 3 shot group photo was with 225gr Interlocks and the next photo was 225gr ttsx ammo. The recoil wasn't nearly as hard as I expected, so I will be putting off adding a brake. Love the new MarkV and LXX trigger. Now my only problem is do I bring my new 340 Arroyo or the 6.5-300 ULW when I head to Colorado for my October cow elk hunt??

The store manager at my local Cabelas has located an Arroyo in 340 for me, does anyone know if the new Mark V Arroyo came in 340 last year? It's not listed in this years Weatherby offerings and I told him I was only interested in the new Mark V. If no one knows for sure I will probably give Weatherby a call Thursday to double check.

Just checked the back door in the Colorado elk draw and found out I now have a 2nd rifle cow elk tag coming for gmu76!!!! Looking forward to spending 9 days hunting with friends in October, can't wait to try my new ULW 6.5-300 on elk. Already picked up a cot since we will be staying in my buddy's new Davis wall tent in Colorado and here in Minnesota in November.
