Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Checkering a rifle stock
« on: January 17, 2019, 04:11:35 PM »
Im looking to get my Boyds laminate stock on my Ruger M77 Mark ll 280 AI checkered. Any suggestions on who is good? Im just looking for basic patterns, nothing fancy. Or would it be cheaper to buy another stock?

Hey guys this might be a stupid question but I bought a Remington R-15 VTR stainless in 223 Rem. I bought it as my main coyote hunting rifle and to shoot for fun. My question is what kind of scope mounts do I get for this thing? I read some might need risers for the scope mounts. ???

I have a Weatherby Vanguard s1 I am thinking about rebarreling. I am not familiar with a rebarreling job. Do their barrels come already threaded and just screw right in? Or will I need to find a gunsmith to do the job?

I have a Remington 700 bdl in 7 mm rem mag that I am considering on rebarreling. Who is a good company to use? What would be a ballpark price range? I am thinking a 7mm STW or 280 AI.

Im looking into a Mossberg Patriot 22-250 with a walnut stock. They look like pretty cool guns with the spiral vented bolts and fluted barrels.  I see they are $450 with a Vortex Crossfire II scope. This is for my son to get use to shooting guns and will become Dads new coyote rifle! 8)

Rifles / Looking to add a 6.5-300 wby
« on: January 15, 2018, 02:29:02 PM »
I am either looking at the Vanguard s2 and updating to a wood stock or the new vanguard first lite. Will it make sense to add one to my collection if shots are less than 200 yards? I already have a 240 wby, 270 wby, and 300 wby.

I know your thinking why would I want the black tupperware stock but I found a nice wood stock for my Accuguard but it says its for the vanguard. I understand I will need to sand alittle bit for the #3 contour but will the action screws line up?

I have a Weatherby Accuguard in 240 wby. I am thinking about getting a wood stock from Boyds. Will the 240 wby be considered a long action?

Its been awhile! Its good to see alot of the same familiar faces.
I was looking at the Kimber 84m varmint in 22-250 but decided to stick with my 240 wby. What would be a good load that won't blow up a coyote? I'm looking to get some mounts for my new man cave.

They are both 3x9. Both have never seen the woods. The Terra has just been mounted but never seen a shot and the Conquest seen the range twice. Im looking to get $250 to your door.

I have a Zeiss Terra and Zeiss Conquest that I'm looking to sell for $325 each to your door. Both are 3x9x42 and never even seen the woods. The Conquest seen the range twice and the Terra is brand new never used!

Im looking to sell my Accuguard in 240 wby. Never fired, only had it a few months. I will do $800 bare rifle or $1000 with the Zeiss Terra scope. The Accuguard is a Cabelas exclusive and they list it for $949.

I also have a Weatherby Vanguard s2 Sporter in 270wsm. Wood and rifle are in great shape and only have about 40 rounds threw it. Ill take $700 and that include a 3x9 Redfield scope.

The next one is Weatherby Vanguard s2 Deluxe in 300 wby. The stock is beautiful and in great shape along with the rifle. The rifle only seen the range twice and has about a case of shells shot through it. I'll take $750 for bare rifle or $950 with Zeiss Conquest.

All prices include shipping and I need to sell to have money for the baby we are expecting. I figured I would list them here first!

Rifles / 240B scratching brass?
« on: March 17, 2015, 05:27:25 AM »
I have a brand new 240 wby that I never shot yet. I first realized it was scratching the brass on my reloads when I  was checking to see if they fit in my rifle. When I examined them I realized a scratch about 1/2" and was pretty deep on almost every piece of brass. I than tried some loaded factory ammo with the same result. Is this normal? I just dont want to ruin the brass, it's few and far between!

Is there an easier way when seating the bullet to get it to the right COL faster? The way I  do it is...
-I screw the die in to the press and then seat the bullet.
-Than I measure it with my calipers to see how much further I need to go.
-Next I screw the die farther down into the press and do the process over until I get to the COL.
I know there got to be an easier way!

I know there is probably a handful of threads like this but I was thinking today of my next caliber of rifle will be. I'm thinking a 340 Weatherby in a Sporter or Accumark or a 30-378 Accumark. Both calibers are more gun than I need to hunt deer but they are something I want! ;D
