Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / A G Russell
« on: Yesterday at 02:47:05 PM »
A man I have done business with for 30 years has passed away. I never met him but certainly talked to him on the phone numerous times. He always came off as I was the single most important customer and a long time friend.  I have close to 100 of his best knives in my collection. RIP, A G Russell a class act!

Since I have made it through this hurricane season unscathed, I am doing my annual assessment of my "stores".  MREs this year!  The freeze dried food tastes great but is expensive and requires a lot of water and  is high in salt. Had the lemon poppy cake out of this MRE and it was good. I can't say the same for the beef (barf?) jerky thing.  I do have a serious amount of crushed bonnet pepper sauce on hand to over power just about anything!  More to follow.....   ;D

I tried out the supposed oldest continually distilled U S whiskey tonight. It was my grandfather's favorite and he ran whiskey during prohibition. It gets a 5 star badsection approval.  Great taste, smooth and cheap!  My dad would put a pint of this in my pocket when he knew my mom was taking us to visit my grandad. He would hug me and pick my pocket to hide the whiskey from my tetotaling mom.   ;D

Do any of you see a giant change in your locale tomorrow?  I am hoping to lose a senator with 18 years experience of being useless(Bill Nelson).  Fingers crossed on the new Governor of Florida! My U S Congressman, Alcee Hastings , is running unopposed. He is the former federal judge that resigned just before being removed for accepting bribes. Georgia is about to cross into history, electing a black woman.

Ten months cold turkey! Probably the single toughest thing I ever did, quit tobacco entirely after 50 some years! I am an addict!  the real tough days are getting fewer and further in between. I certainly could have ripped some people's heads right off their shoulders on a few of those days. They probably still deserve it, I just didn't do it , YET! Even practiced the maneuver needed with my 75lb. dumbbells, one in either hand! Enjoying a 4.5 star Rye to celebrate their luck at drawing another breathe. Cost is the lack of the last .5 star, being a cheap bastard. Smooth, great taste , just a tad expensive even on sale LOL!

Looks like there was an attempt, maybe somewhat successfully, to hack my email accounts and possibly other sites I frequent. The source is "unknown" per windows defender.    I'm changing all my passwords. Forewarned....  :)

Looks like potential Tropical Storm Oscar is wandering around mid Atlantic.  Have you seen this, PARA45 ?   :)

Had a medical assistant at my new Doctor's office take a blood sample from me today, not unexpected.  I was making bad jokes about the stupid forms I was filling out as I bled. Yes, they were that fast! This kids English was good with a definite Hispanic accent. He said learning his job and doing it well was his 2nd biggest accomplishment. I had to ask what was #1. "Becoming a U S Citizen" without missing a heartbeat! After a thought, I shook his hand and said "Congratulations, too many of us take that for granted. Thought the kid was going to cry!  :) Still think I did the right thing there.

I tried the Rye a few days ago. Tested the 101 proof bourbon tonight. Wow on both! They are distilled in Indiana and bottled in South Carolina.  My favorite Rye whiskey was Crown Royal Northern Rye till now! This is $15 USD cheaper, too!

Just finished running a oiled patch down the barrel and wiping down the rest of every gun I own!  I do this pretty much every 6 months. It does force me to handle every gun and check all seems O K.  I do take a few guns for granted on their accuracy and dependability. Certain guns make me think about how to pull the bolt out of.  My Savage made Lee Enfield 303 Brit is always a test of my memory on how to pull the bolt even if it is one of the simplest bolt actions ever made. Doing my 336 Marlin in 35 Remington brings back memories of long dead friends from PA.  It was the chosen weapon of deer hunters that I worked with in the late 60's that left home to find work in the MD. suburbs of D.C.   :)

I'm at it again, loading a obsolete bullet. 300gr. Speer Unicore has been discontinued and I loaded 25 with 65 remaining. The bullet is listed in Speer manual #14 but not in#15.  I used 296 powder for my nickel plated S&W model 29.   :)
