All of that tinkering with my Weathermark and the ammo paid off. Got this little guy with a 420 yd shot. That Leupold CDS system paid off in spades.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Change Factory Ammo?
« on: October 01, 2022, 03:53:23 PM »
While in the local sporting goods store to pick up elk licenses I found a box of Weatherby Select ammo loaded with Nosler AccuBond bullets and it followed me home. Being the curious fellow I am I checked the OAL against the Nosler manual. The manual calls for an OAL of 3.060 in. I checked the Wby ammo and it was loaded to a length of 3.081 in. So as an experiment I put 3 rounds in the press and reseated them to the Nosler spec. Here's the result. Factory spread was 1 3/4 in. The reseated rounds went into about 3/4 of an inch. has anyone else observed results like this?

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Shout Out
« on: September 22, 2022, 10:34:25 AM »
Here's a shoutout to two Weatherby employees who deserve accolades. I called Weatherby customer service and spoke with a young lady by the name of Theresa. I explained my problem to her and she advised that if I could get to Sheridan in the morning I could get a gunsmith to look at it. Bright and dark the next morning, (yesterday) I was on the road to Sheridan. When I arrived I explained the problem to the gentleman at the counter. He promptly took my rifle to the plant 30 minutes later the gunsmith, Caleb returned to the showroom with my rifle, explained the problem. My rifle being well over a year old I expected to pay for the services since I was the cause. Caleb explained that Mark V's are lifetime warrantied  to the original owner.

We chatted for a few minutes and I left Weatherby with a feeling of satisfaction I have never felt before from a company. I would like to thank Adam for hiring such conscientious people.

Thank You Weatherby.

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / Sierra Bullets

I have been unable to get acceptable groups with my traditional hunting bullets in my .240 until today. I went out this morning before it got to hot and shot factory 80 gr Barnes and 100 gr Hornady interlocks and a couple handloads. More patterns than groups until I fired three rounds with 50.8 RE 15 and a 90 gr Sierra TGK. I just finished loading a dozen more rounds to make sure that this isn't a fluke. My problem is that I'm unsure if the bullet will hold up on game.

Good news. Walked into the local sporting goods store to check out the ammo supply and found 25 boxes of .240 Weatherby Select ammo on the shelf. 100 Hornady spire pts. 4 boxes followed me home. All they would let me buy.

Wyo Game and Fish dept. seemed to feel that I didn't deserve an elk or deer permit so it is going to be another over the counter licenses for deer and elk. I did however draw an antelope permit for area 106, same area I dropped the goat in my avatar. Now I really need to get that .240 Wby dialed in.

I want into a local sporting goods store yesterday to see if anything new came in. WOW, the Hornady section was packed. I picked up a couple boxes of 6mm 90 gr ELD X. Bad news, 2 boxes set me back just over $100.00.
