Other Big Game / Re: 257 for bear
« on: May 31, 2020, 06:46:46 PM »
I shot a 200ish lb black bear a few years back with my 257Wby pushing 100gr Sciroccos @ 3600fps.  Very dead bear and bullet is probably still going

I shoot these out of my 7RM and have fount good accuracy @ 2950fps.  I’ve killed 14 big game animals with this bullet including antelope, whitetails, muleys, bears and elk.  Very consistent bullet that kills with authority.

Yep I’d start lapping as an out of true ring may be the culprit.  I lap all my rings including aluminum.

Well instead of going through the hassle of sending it back I loaded up the resized 7RM brass and hit the range.  It stacks 100gr SSll’s @ 3550fps right at MOA as is.  I’ve used a bunch of 7RM/264WM brass for 257Wby over the years so no biggy and way cheaper....definitely odd though

I use mediums on all my 50mm obj scoped rifles and lows on all 40mm to include Wby Vanguard Sll

Won’t chamber brand new Wby brass, once fired FL sized Wby brass or factory Wby loaded ammo.  Long neck is obvious culprit as 7RM through the same die chambers beautifully

Reloading / Issue w/ new 257
« on: January 02, 2019, 03:26:52 PM »
Purchased a new Vanguard S2 in 257Roy as the price was right and ran into an issue I’ve yet to see on any rifle custom or factory.  The chamber won’t accept 257 brass.  The necks are too long even when trimmed well below spec and the bolt won’t close.  Instead of packaging up and sending bac to Wby I just resized 7RM and chambers like butter.  For the record I haven’t shot it yet.

Anyone else ever have an issue like this?

Rifles / Re: 22-250 heavy barrel

My hunting pard just picked up a 22" blued Vanguard in 223 at our local money pit for $475. It has a heavy barrel and tan-spiderweb varmint stock. Weathery doesn''t even catolog this so don't know where to find one in your area. BTW they had two more in 22-250. I've also found that walmart stocks weird uncatologed Weatherby rifles....I just picked up a tan-spiderweb stocked Vanguard in 257Roy for $390.

Good luck,

Brett

I just do a simple one shot then clean and repeat about 5 times.  I still don't know if there is anything to the barrel break in myth as my barrels with no break in shoot and clean-up just as good as the ones with break in.  Who knows.

First off I'd think real hard about a regular Vanguard instead of the Sub-Moa.  Both mine shoot inside an inch all day long.  I don't think there is much to be gained . . . just more $ spent. The Vanguard is the best rifle for the money out there right now IMO.

So I'd go stainless Vanguard and spend the extra change on good glass....aka Leupold.

How about just using the ammo your rifle was chambered for......just like any other caliber.

One of my hunting pards runs Norma MRP with much success.

Reloading / Re: H1000 AND 257 WBY
« on: April 12, 2009, 12:29:21 AM »
I started out wanting to run NBT's because they are the hammer of Thor on mulies out of my 25-06 @ 3400fps, but ended up with two more accurate bullets....

100gr Scirocco's/H1000/WbyBrass/Fed215M's

100gr XLC's/H1000/WbyBrass/Fed215's

The NBT's and H1000 still shot well(1 moa @ 3590fps)....but I'll likely go with one of these

Sounds like you need a good reloading manual.....
