Equipment / Ammo holder
« on: January 04, 2018, 06:37:02 AM »
I am looking for a ammo wallet that will attach to a belt and hold 378 Weatherby rounds. I have purchased a couple that was suppose to have worked and didn’t. I would appreciate advise from anyone that uses a ammo wallet for magnum rounds.

I had the same problem with a Mark 5 and was able to repair mine with a new safety hook bought from Gunbroker (Weatherby did not have one in stock). Here is the one that worked for my rifle, dont know if it will work for yours.

Good Luck

Reloading / Case Trimmer
« on: November 20, 2013, 09:15:47 PM »
I am looking for opinions of what universal case trimmer to buy. My main concerns with some of the brands I have looked at is all of the extras needed every time you change calibers. I load in groups of 50 or 100 rounds at a time so not high production (223 -200 + rounds at a time). I would like to be able to convert to use a drill for the 223. Here is a list of the calibers I am loading for at this point
 240, 257, 270, 7mm, 300, 340 and the 30-378 WBY
223 and 22-250
270 and 300 WSM

Around the Campfire (General Discussion) / ATV gun holder
« on: August 17, 2013, 08:19:09 PM »
My wife has knee surgery scheduled and will not be able to any walking during this hunting season so I bought her an ATV. My problem is that I cringe knowing that her Mark 5 Deluxe will be bouncing around in a gun holder on the ATV. Do any of y'all have any recommendations of what gun rack/holder will do the least damage?  I have also looked at adding a synthetic stock but can not find a quality one at a reasonable price and a new one are 4-6 months out.

I use a upper end Carnauba automotive wax made by Zep. This wax drys to a very hard surface quickly and I put two coats per stock. I hunt the east side of Oregon for deer and it keeps all the fine desert dust from scratching the stock and the rain/snow beads off during elk season. I also add it to my gun barrel and it really makes the blued barrels look freshly blued and the water beads off them.  Maybe its just my imagination but I feel like I get less of my oily finger prints on the barrel.

Rifles / Need German made safety hook for Mark 5
« on: December 14, 2012, 08:36:33 PM »
Some how the safety hook broke on 7mm WBY German built. I called Weatherby and was told that the part was no longer made and that I would have to buy a replacement part and get it fitted by a gun smith. Does anyone have a German safety hook they will part with or has anyone done the conversion that can share what needs to be done as I prefer to do the work myself?
Thanks Tom

Reloading / Universal Powder for Mags?
« on: April 15, 2012, 07:10:52 PM »
I am trying to get a surplus of gun powder stocked up before potential shortages from elections and hoarding make things in short supply. I am looking to buy 1-2 8 pound quantities of a powder(s) that would allow me to load  for the majority of my magnum guns.
240 WBY 100 grain Partition
257 WBY 120 grain Partition
270 WBY and 270 WSM 150 grain Partition
300 WBY and 300 WSM 180 grain Partition and Accubond
30-378 WBY new-have not decided between the 200 or 225 Partition
340 WBY  225 partition with plans to load 300 grain Accubond
300 RUM 180 grain partition and Accubond
8mm Remington Mag 200 grain Partition
Leaning toward IMR 4350 and IMR 7828 as I was able to find random quantities during the last shortage. What else should be considered? The 240 WBY is my only finicky gun...
Thanks Tom

Well after months of looking for a 224 WBY I settled (also know as a budget) for a 22-250 SVM . This will be my first non-Weatherby caliber and I am still struggling if I made the right choice. For what ever reason I have this hang up of owning only Mark 5s in Weatherby Calibers. Wish scopes decisions weren't so complicated, expensive...

Rifles / Re: 257 or 240 weatherby?
« on: June 20, 2011, 11:07:29 PM »
I have both in the safe and very fond of each one yet I find that I reach for the 257 consistently over the 240. 257 is hard to beat...

I am trying to buy a couple of used Mark 5 every year and was wondering what used gun guide(s) was the most in tune with the values of the old and newer Weatherby's. Even though I never intend to sell any of my guns I really enjoy the pursuit of finding great deals that I will pass down to my kids and grand kids. Thanks for help...

I am looking to buy a Mark 5 240 WBY for my (small) collection but was troubled when i read some of the old threads about this caliber. One in particular stated that this is the least desirable caliber of the Weatherby's. I have found that brass is some what easy to come by, ballistics look ok.-don't understand, looking for feedback of why to buy or why not to buy. Thanks.

Unbelievable – I joined this site as I am a Weatherby believer, to gain and share knowledge. On a personal level I understand wanting to use all caps as it is clearly easier, but I believe that there is a slim probability that few if any on this site do not understand that using caps is considered yelling.  I understand the benefits of this site and know that without rules, egos and attitudes can turn ugly quickly. So if this was the Briar Rabbit site you and I would be able to use caps. At some point someone would not use caps or do something else petty in their eyes and then we could be bothered. My point that I am trying to make is this seams (to me) like a simple request. My experience in life leads me to believe that if we struggle over the simplest of things the big issues will consume us. I cannot learn about Weatherby Mark 5 when people that have twice the knowledge, three times the writing skills of what I have are wasting energy and making this a hot topic. This is not directed to anyone but to everyone…
