I like that knife, :) :)

Something special about a knife you make yourself.

Absolutely.

huh... just looked it up on Wikipedia. This just a coincidence or are you in some way tied to this Big Muddy?

As a follow up to my too long of a post above, I believe the vast majority of wardens are honest people just trying to do an honest job. But I also believe there are probably way too many wardens out there that go out of their way to write tickets and show off their authority when people are in no way violating the spirit of any law. And when they post that kind of behavior on social media and make TV shows where it is boarderline celebrated, all it does is lead the average hunter/fisherman to see them as the enemy, not as an ally in conservation. And that is a shame.

By far, the most interactions Iíve had with wardens has been while dove hunting. Most of the time they want to see your license and check your gun for a plug. Iíve had a couple count my birds. Iíve personally never had a bad experience with them out in the dove fields. Some people that used to hunt a field beside me did get some SERIOUS fines one year and I watched it happen. They were way over their limits one afternoon and turns out it was their second time getting caught in a few years. Never saw those guys again.

Had a warden stop by my gate to my deer lease on year and start asking me all sorts of random questions. After a few minutes he admits the only reason he stopped is he had heard from one of the local farmers that they thought  I had taken a few deer that season and the acorns were real bad and he was hunting down the road about a mile a wasnít seeing anything. He wanted to know if I could give him any advice! We ended up chatting for a bit and I sorta became friends with him.

One of his duties at the time was running a voluntary CWD checking program. I told him I didnít mind if he checked my deer. So we worked it out where the local processor would call him if I dropped off a deer and then he would call me with the results. (Everyone of them all came back negative) He ended up moving somewhere way north a few years ago.

Fast forward to this year... I find the headless deer right in front of my place. The afternoon of the day I found it I am at the farmerís house who I lease from talking to him, his son, and his sonís friend from Austin who hunts the land right around their house. I mention the deer, show them the pictures I took and tell them I am thinking of calling the game warden. All 3 of them about fall over trying to rush to tell me that would not be a good idea. Turns out the new guy isnít so nice and they have all had negative run ins with him. The farmerís son tells me if I call he will almost certainly try to blame it on me and also start coming to my lease, ruining hunts and hassling me. Needless to say I didnít  call it in.

I wish I had bought my first Weatherby thirty five years ago.  I would have a lot fewer guns in my safe now.
Uh, it don't work that way. My first rifle was a Weatherby sporter .30-06 and I never needed another... until I picked up that .243... and ooh that's a good deal on a .257... and oooh I really 'needed' that .240 accuguard.....

This is a true statement

I feel a bit remiss, but I forgot to add, I had one of Purplefoxís slings on the Lazerguard with 2 Accubonds in the holder.... and man alive... that caught as many eyes once they were up close as anything!

Thatís a new one on me.... off top of my head, 2 things I might try... 1. Use a different web browser than what you normally do (i.e., if you use explorer, try google chrome) then manually type in www.weatherbynation.com in the actual web address bar and go from there... 2. Try going to www.weatherby.com and accessing the nation site through their link.

Hope any of it works!!!

I went to the range this afternoon. My main goal was to figure out what in the world is going on with my new 240, not a gun issue, but a scope/mounts/base issue (another story for another day, that one) but I also took along a few other Beeís for various reasons. There were 2 father/son groups on the rifle range when I got there, after about 40 mins or so I broke out the .257 Lazerguard. It wasnít 3 mins of having it out that both of the Dadís were right over by me telling me what a beautiful rifle I had and asking all sorts of questions about it.

Skip ahead about an hour in the day and the young man who recently started working out there is looking at my 240 in pro shop, a couple of younger (early 20ís Iíd say) guys were in there too... both were shooting custom rigs of some sort, one from a shop in College Station TX Iíve never heard of but am going to look into... but I digress... they started commenting on the Vanguard Wilderness and asking what all was custom work and what came stock and how cool it looked.

To each their own, but it seems now more than ever, everybody can find a Weatherby they like, even if they donít know what they are liking at the moment.

Cant speak for their scopes as I have never had or looked through one.

Same here. I have been tempted to buy one a few times though, just going off how much I like the rage finder. Anyone with any experience with a Sig Sauer scope or binos? It so, thoughts/comparisons??

Received this email today and thought it was a pretty good deal if anyone happens to be in the market for something comparable. I have a Sig rangefinder and have nothing but positive things to say about both quality and performance. Ad says itís a $200 savings...

post some pics when you get your stock and then when you get it all set up too...

A honey hole indeed. There are countless people out there that have hunted or will hunt for years and years, some paying thousands of dollars every year to do so, who can only dream about ONE deer like that. What a deal for your sons! Congrats to them. Godspeed over there, your turn next!
