given a 7 mm in the magnum ,what are your thoughts for its use on elk at long range,up to say 1000 yards as shone on the tv shows long range pursuit and best of the west plus extreme outer limits.i am told that it does not put them down like a 30 cal.

my brother has a 25-06 for deer.i had one but to get meat from deer I lost a bit over my 300 weatherby  in comparing them.i assume the 240 will not do that.looking to purchase a gun in the summer with my wifes dog money.she rases goidendoodles and labondoodles.

Rifles / long range shooting
« on: December 22, 2017, 06:09:02 PM »
I watch gunwerks show about working with a long range rifle.now, they shoot the rifle for a few days to see how it shoots at 200 yards for impack shift of the first shot.the groups our about 1/2 moa at 200 yards .this is used for shots out to 1000 yards on big game .do any of you do this with your weatherby rifles.my 300 weatherby has a #2 barrel and will put 3 shots of hand loads in 1/2 in at 100 yards.i am going to see if the rifle will stay this way in cold bore 1 shot on 1 day and not move for a cold bore shot over say 3 days to prove it can hit a deer out to 800 yards .

my uncle got a 8 mm magnum from grices at the time in Clearfield pa.it was a nice gun.he killed about 30 deer with it and sold it for about 600.00...
he paid about 300 for it new.that is a story in itself.i am not sure how it shot.i know where ther is 1 for 600 dollars right now, but I have the 300 weatherby so I do not need that rifle.if interested I may be able to get in touch with the person who has it.
