I love heating some mango up in the microwave and serving it with some nice vanilla ice cream. Had that for dessert 2 nights ago  :)

Reloading / Re: 257 Weatherby load data for Newfoundland Moose

I have ever seen a moose but I would imagine with a critter that big you would want a tough projectile that penetrates deeply. I have been using the 115grn Barnes TSX in my .257 wby and I am yet to recover a projectile. I used it in Africa on some plains game too. It has killed everything I've shot with it very easily. The 120grn Partition could be another good choice.

Too elderly and incompetent to stand trial but can run the most powerful country on the planet? We are the laughing stock of the planet now.

Hate to say it but yep you are.

One could also pop down to New Zealand and hunt elk there. Or come to Australia and hunt deer, buffalo etc for much less than an elk hunt in the states.

Try some of that H4831sc. That is what I have used in the past to load up 250grn Barnes TSX projectiles. But if I were you and wanted a great all-round load for everything from mice to moose, I would get some 225grn Barnes projectiles and try them with 86grns of H4831sc for 3050fps with a cartridge length of 3.680". That is the load I use in my .340 and it shoots great. I find the 225grn TSX a perfect match for the .340 on everything. I tried the 250 TSX on big scrub bulls and a water buffalo down here in Australia but had better results with the lighter projectile travelling faster. The 225grn pill penetrated just as deep as the 250grn one did. I also used that load on lion, lioness and several plains game with fantastic results.

I took my one and only Black Buck with my .240 Wby. I used the 100grn Nosler Partition projectile. 1st shot was front on shot as he faced me at 50m. He took off like he hadn't been hit. I followed him on my ATV for about 80m and he eventually stopped, turned and faced me, I smacked him again (in the exact same bullet hole as the 1st shot lol) and again he wheeled around and ran. This time only 20m then dropped. I found one projectile just under the skin on the inside of his back leg and the other one completely passed through. We opened him up and his entire organs were decimated. It was an amazement he ran like he did. They sure are tough buggers.

.340 Wby for the win! It shoots flat and hits hard with mild recoil. That's why it's my favorite.

I think Weatherby made a 338-06 at one time. I had a 338 RUM at one time and it was a hard kicker. I do have a 338 Lapua set up as a paper puncher. It is a tack driver if I do my part.  :)

Yep they did Grouchy. I have one in my safe. It's built on the lightweight 6 lug action. I love the weight and feel of it. I've only put a few rounds through it but it is going to be a good all-round caliber.
I also have a .338 Win mag and of course my .340 Wby mag Lazermark and am having a gunsmith build me another beautiful custom Mark V .340.

Let's look at Brets situation. He lives where nearly every creature wants to sting, bite, crush, eat or just stomp you into the ground. Even the little duck billed platypus has venom. The emu wars showed who was the real victor. Some of us may feel we live in an area of unfriendly wildlife but nowhere near the unfriendliness of the land "down under". :o

Yep lots of critters down here that are nasty buggers. Especially snakes. I've just moved into a new place that is very rocky and lots of places for snakes to live. So I have my .410 ready to go if needed.

Australia has the most venomous snakes in the world, and some of those venoms are kind to humans.  BB, what kind of snakes would you have in your area?  Too bad you can have Mongoose as pets.   ;D

The eastern brown, tiger, and red belly black snakes are the most common around here. The eastern brown and tiger snakes are bad suckers. The red belly is quite a bit more placid. A few years ago I came out of my gun shed and there was a tiger snake several meters from the door. The cranky f*cker took one look at me and came after me. So I ducked back into the shed and grabbed the .410 to educate him.... ;D

You sure did ruin his day.

LOL - that made me laugh outloud mike! :)

If you get in a gun fight with Bret body armor isn't the trick you better be out of RANGE! :) lol

Yes you best be out of range because it would also be useless trying to hide behind anything too... ;D ;D

43
Yeah gotta have some big guns. We got some pretty tough critters down here to hunt. Haven't you all heard of the Drop Bears that run amuck down here??  ;D ;D

44
I want the .500 Weatherby Magnum! Neck up the .460 case to .50 cal and lets go buff hunting.
