10 second flight time. Not saying that the guy wasn't a great shot but this was pure luck. The recipient of his skill had to have been sitting in a chair sipping camel pee tea or something? He sure wasn't walking around. Ten seconds is a long time to be perfectly still. I'm waiting on them to repeat it.  ;D

But it's a "dry" heat.  ;D

HaHa!  ;D

Wife brought home a big box of toilet paper and the rolls didn't have the cardboard "rolls". It was "rolless" toilet paper!  :o

So, you better start hoarding rolls. They may not be around much longer.

That's a tough one. I like my Winchesters as much as I like my Vanguards! I would have a gunsmith take a look at the trigger first.

Ours is 16' high and 8' X 8'. Basically two stories enclosed. Nothing fancy though. A few chairs and a table upstairs, and a simple bar and stove downstairs.  8) We haven't hunted deer in years. We just sit back, sip a little single malt, maybe some cheese and crackers, and choot'em through the windows! LOL!

I need to take some pics sometime and post them.

Custom Shop / Re: Scope recommendations for CFP Mark V 22-250
« on: June 02, 2017, 04:54:05 AM »
I've replaced all of my bases with rails. I had an old 1" scope with the Talley ring/base on a Vanguard tghat I wanted to replace with a 30 mm scope. I ended up having to take it to my gunsmith to remove the Talley trash. Seems that in their ultimate wisdom they decided to drill a hole directly down the center of the bases and use the smallest heads on their screws. I got 3 of the 4 screws out but the last one stripped (very soft metal in those screws) and there was no way to get it out of that center hole. He had to grind the mount off! I took the parts to the range and passed it around. Quite a few of the guys thanked me for the heads up. I switch scopes quite often (upgrades mostly) so I find that a good rail makes life so much easier. Looking back it was my fault. As soon as I saw that deep hole in that base I should have thrown it out or sent it back. Live and learn.

As far as the scopes, I also recommend Burris for the money.

Matthew hit us pretty hard last fall. There are still roads and bridges closed and under repair or replacement.

Ooooh boy! Here we again!  :P

I have several Orion II's that I use for upland stuff and a Winchester SX3 for waterfowl. I had a Benelli but it never fit me very well so I sold it. Besides I prefer a gas gun. Less recoil and easier to miss a bird on the second or third shot.  ;)

For an every day knock down, drag in the mud shotgun you can't beat a Stoeger Condor O/U. I've killed ducks, geese, cottonmouths, turkeys, deer, squirrels, copperheads, rabbits, feral cats, crows, doves, cottonmouths, bobcats, coons, pigeons, feral dogs, copperheads...

Did I mention cottonmouths and copperheads?  ;D

It also works well as a boat paddle, jack handle, briar beater, and stump knocker.

Upland / Re: Proposed insanity by the Pa Game Commission
« on: May 20, 2017, 04:22:48 AM »
I think it silly (insane) to release captive reared birds into the wild to begin with. Especially a species that was never even native to the state. If the "put and take" program has become to expensive to operate (2 out of 4 farms have closed) then let the shooters pay for them. Here in NC we have hundreds of private commercial shooting preserves that offer tame quail, pheasants, chukars, and mallards for people to buy and shoot. I would be upset if I knew that our agency was spending sportsmens dollars on a "tamie" shooting program. And don't even get me started on "put and take" hatchery grown trout!  ;)

They should make it in the 257 Bee!!  ;)

As a side note, I was playing around with one of the online ballistic calculators and generated a hypothetical temperature/trajectory  table using one of my pet 6.5 CM loads with IMR4350 and Nosler RDF 140's in my Vanguard. I started with 45 degrees and went up in 5 degree increments to 95 degrees with standard pressure at an elevation of 92 feet (elevation at my range). There was no difference in the hypothetical trajectory (dial-ups) from 45 to 95 degrees out to 500 yards. I tested it yesterday afternoon at 400 and 600 yards. The temp was 80 so I dialed up 1.8 mils and hit dead on. I then dialed up 4.0 mils and did the same at 600. What I consider dead on is a 1 MOA or less group. I plan to test it again early one morning at a lower temperature and see what happens. This is completely independent of powder temperature, although I assume it would be close to ambient since it was in the shade. Not all that scientific but I'm always doing stuff like this for fun and its a great excuse to burn some powder. And I always learn something.  I may generate some more tables and use temperature as a constant and pressure and humdity as variables to see what variable has the greatest impact on trajectory. I can't imagine that BP and humdity are "significant" when compared to temperature.

I did note that at 1,000 yards and at 45 degrees the dial-up was estimated at 10.2 mils. At 95 degrees the dial-up was 9.6 mils. A difference of 0.6 mils.

Rifles / Re: Varmint Master 224 Nra Army Mkv
« on: April 22, 2017, 12:24:40 PM »
That is very nice rifle except for those crappy medallions. I hate it when some organization such as the NRA, DU, NWTF, QDMA, add some kind of silly medallion or other "gimmick" to a perfectly fine firearm or high quality stock. First thing that comes to mind is how much for the barreled action without the crappy stock?  :P
