For me, no, I wouldn’t trade it for either. Slinging a 140 grn bullet at 3100+ft a second with the sectional density it has out of the .277 was always very appealing to me. Only thing I’d consider trading it for would be a 270WBY.
Hmmm, https://www.gunbroker.com/item/836097159
That is not nice! So tempting! One of the things holding me back is I think when I do pull the trigger on one I think it will be one of the lightweight models.() I see the the 270WBY as one of the best all around (maybe the best??) hunting rounds for the lower 48. Already have the heavier version covered with the 270WSM as the rifle weighs about 8lbs and I have a 4-16x50 Nikon Monarch 7 sitting up top.
I’ve started to get the 270bee project going twice before and twice got side tracked. Once was when I ran across a Vanguard in 300WSM that I bought on the spot for sentimental reasons and the second time I back burnered it for the Ravin R20 project. I’ll get around to it eventually. Now some of the newer model MKVs have thrown in even more decisions!
The whole problem with waiting for the new models is do you buy a 270 or try the new 6.5RPM. I have a price watch on an Arroyo 257 RC and I already have 2-257s, then again a Backcountry TI in 257 sure would be a sweet rifle to pack around in the Mountains or the thick swamps. I do feel your pain, especially since I keep putting off buying a Ravin.
The Ravin's are sweet! Can't say enough good things about mine. Only downside is probably how quickly you will go through strings and cables, but, you can't expect race car performance and everyday driver maintenance. I hear that the older and/or slightly slower models are just as good too, and probably even a little more forgiving on the S&Cs. If I happen across an R9 or R10 (or one of the newer 26 or 29 models, although I doubt I'll be seeing any great deals on those any time real soon) at a good price I'll probably grab it up as a backup/on the move bow.
As for the 270WBY, I'll probably end up going with one of the older model lightweights. I do like a "light" rifle for a lot of walking, but there is a limit on how light I want to go. I have a Vanguard Wilderness which is somewhere around the 6.7lbs range. I put a lightweight Swaro Z3 on top of that and carried it for 3 days of mountain hiking in the Big Bend National Park area on the Texas/Mexico border last February. Those mountains are not the Rockies by any stretch, but they did a good job replicating the work on my legs. I found that rifle to be a pleasure to carry and it has just enough weight that I still feel comfortable shooting it accurately with just a so-so rest.
I would like to get another .257WBY in a heavy MKV. Hard to beat that with a heavy scope for TX stand hunting.
