I got the weatherbys loaded in the truck, and about to head up the mountain for my last chance at a 2016 Colorado elk. It's been warm and dry so looks a little bleak for what was supposed to be a migration elk hunt. Got my 300 weatherby vanguard shooting bug eyes with a 200 grain accubond for the close range work in the dark timber and quakie draws. The 338/378 accumark will be up to bat on the sage flats shooting a 250 grain accubond into a 18x24 plate out to 1400 yards ( no I won't take a shot that far on an animal). We will see how it plays out they are calling for between 4 and 12 inches of snow on Thursday maybe that will kick start the migration and give the 338 a chance to sing!

Sounds like you've got all the bases covered, so good luck, and let us know whether the snow helps your hunt in the Colorado mountains.

Good luck. Sounds like you have everything covered but the weather. The change in weather should do you good. Lets hope the snow really comes in.

Good luck. Sounds like you have the firepower to handle all situations. Look forward to reading a hunt report when it is over.

Last year hunting by Creede, i ended up seeing more bull moose then bull elk. Wish i could afford the $2,000+ for a non resident moose tag. Hope the elk head down to the valleys for you.

Morning day 2 10 deer 4 moose and 2 cow elk by the time I got them ranged and my dope set they moved into the trees before I could pull the trigger. It's snowing hard and wind gusting to 40 right now so I'm expecting a slow evening hunt but winds are forecast to stop through the night, I'm thinking that Fridays am hunt should be good!

Friday and Saturday hunts were cool got phone scope footage of 2 mule deer sparring and seen alot of animals but no more elk since the 2 that gave me the slip the other morning. Will be heading home in the morning and back to work on Monday. It's been a great season this year killed a muzzleloader buck at 15 yards a pronghorn at 623 but never let the bullet fly on either of my 2 elk hunts. It was an awesome season filled with friends and family sad it's over.

Its too bad you didn't get a chance to shoot the 338, but congratulations on a muzzleloader buck and a pronghorn at long range in one season. Being around family and good friends always makes hunting season worth waiting for.
