Testing 257 loads

Testing 257 loads
« on: February 18, 2017, 06:53:35 PM »
Got my new Weathermark rigged up and ready to test different factory loads. Break in is mostly done and planning to test four different rounds. So how many three shot groups are needed from a particular load to feel like the gun likes any one load?

Persoanlly, I shoot 1 foul shot, then three, 3 shot groups, letting the barrel cool in between groups. I then average the size of those 3 groups, to get the results of that load. Then I clean the barrel, and start over with an another load.

BML, don't forget to clean that new barrel during break-in.  Lots of break-in advice on the net.  A good boreguide will save that barrel also.  You will probably burn a few rounds to sight in the scope too.  Good luck

+1 on Catskinners method, take some pictures of your groups and let us know. I'd be surprised if you don't have the problem of more then one being accurate!! Don't let your barrel get to hot!!!!!

Howdy, any updates on the ammo tests?

Sadly no. Got some hand loaded 110 gr nosler accubonds to try as well. Plan to start on it soon as my job stuff gets caught up. Hate I missed the cool weather, will be miserable hot here soon.
