6.5-300 and VLD bullets
« on: March 27, 2017, 03:53:46 PM »
Has anyone used Berger VLD for the 6.5 - 300? I just became the owner of one in the ultra lightweight. I found a company that loaded about six or seven various bullets on the internet and they had one with the VLD's. I can't remember who it was and of course did not save the name. I have used the vld 210 gr. in a .300 win mag about 2800 fps on deer and dropped all where the stood. Just curious how with the 6.5-300 they would hold up at 3500. I think the vld was 120 gr.

The 120gr Berger is a target bullet, the smallest hunting bullet is a 130gr I believe.  I have been running the 87gr vld's in my 240wby at about 3100ish  and the farthest I had one run was about 30yds. I am picking up my 6.5-300wby and may try the Bergers as well at some point. Hendershots may be the place you were thinking of

I'm still waiting to get my hands on some Nosler 120 e-tips for my swede if they perform like the 120 Ballistic tips they will be awesome what worries me if i can get enough velocity out of them to make them work properly. The 6.5-300 and the 120 e-tip would be a deadly combo.

Dmm08300,
Thank you for the link to Hendershot's. They load the 130 gr. Vld for the 6.5-300. I ordered some. I contacted Berger and they have the vld bullet in 130 and 140 gr. They told me they would work as prescribed for the velocities and had me go to youtube to look at their penetration tests for the bullets. I will see how the loaded ammo from Hendershot performs in my ULW for accuracy and will also check out the weatherby ammo 127 lrx  130 scirocco and 140 aframes. I will post the results as soon as possible. I do have opportunities to use them on crop damage deer and see how the VLD's perform.

You're welcome. I'm waiting on some bullets to arrive to work on loads for my ULW 6.5-300 as well. I shot some of the factory 127lrx ammo that came with the rifle when I got it and they shot very well. The previous owner mentioned it did not shoot the 130gr scirocco load well at all. Let us know how the Bergers  do for you.

I am playing with the Berger 140 Elite hunter hybrids.  Velocity is there accuracy, not at all!  Even varying seating depth has not worked.
