Welcome to the Nation Gary! I use the same pill at all ranges in my 300 Wby, and thats the 180 grain Spire Point. I could go into a lengthy explanation, but suffice to say, it will always get the job done without much meat loss and the 180 grain is a favorite in the 30 cal. You really can't go wrong with any loading, as long as you match the bullet to the game and you rifle shoots it accurately. For me shooting one load means I don't have to mess with changing elevation and windage with different loads, but thats just me. Good luck

Mine loves 165's BT's but 180' Partitions will do in a pinch. I say go for it!  ;)

I use a 210 grain Berger VLD in my 300 wby. It's very accurate and and drops the deer in its track. I have a .300 win mag and the most accurate is the 180 grain Winchester silver tip. The win mag just does not like any other bullet except this one.
I know some very good hunters that feel the Berger VLD is too frangible, I have not. It is extremely accurate with a high BC and that gives me excellent long range ballistic capabilities.

I handload Nosler 180 gr. Ballistic-Tips in front of a stiff charge of IMR 7828.

I have used 180 gr with my 300 with great success.Good bullet for everything I hunt.My Father uses 180 gr in his 270 Weatherby,30-06 Rem,300 Sav.I was lucky recently as my Father stopped into a small local gun shop and found an original box of 300 Weatherby 180 gr shells. The sticker on the box listed as $39.99..I now have three older boxes from the sixties with that tiger on the front.

It depends a little on what one considers "long range". For "me" 150 yards is long range :)

But for the sake of the question let's assume "greater than" 300 yards.

When you are pushing the envelope the "long for caliber" bullets usually keep the flattest trajectory, all else being equal.

Currently some that you could consider are 1) most of the mono bullets - TTSX, GMX etc - they are longer in order to get comparable weight to their (lead) counterparts. 2) Swift Scirocco's - they are just plain long and designed for long range shooting. 3) could make the same comments about the ABLR's (Accu-Bond Long Range) from Nosler but I'm a Swift fan and 4) maybe take a look at the new ELD's from Hornady.

My .300 Weatherby Vanguard likes 168 grain Barnes TSX and TTSX bullets that I've successfully used for deer sized and smaller critters in Texas, Africa and New Zealand.

This year I've had good range results with 180 grain TTSX bullets, and I will be hunting with them this fall.

Absolutely I'd use a .300 Weatherby for that and use 180 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, Accubonds, or even Partitions as long as they shoot accurately out of your rifle.
Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt.

We have 3 .300 weatherbys that are used each year on the farm to successfully harvest whitetails. 2 are 1/2 moa all day long w/nosler 180 gr.ballistic tip w/imr 7828; the other one,my sons, excels w/165 gr. nosler bal. tip using rl. 22. All 3 do an excellent job from up close to on out to 600 yds. or a little better. Using one of these on whitetails at yardages of 400 yds. and beyond is a humbling and awesome experience.   cw

I think everyone should own one of the .300 Magnums because they're so versatile, are inherently accurate, easy to load, and the recoil isn't excessive  unless you're talking about the .30-378 Weatherby Magnum or the .300 Ultra Magnum which can be.  For a hunter in North America there's nothing a .300 magnum won't humanly kill as long as you place your shot well and use an appropriate bullet.  When it comes to long range shooting they really shine and can hold their own against other calibers.

I have taken several with a Mark V in 300 Wby! Worked great with Barnes 150 TTSX @ 3200. Very little damage to meat or hide even on a small "meat" doe.

180 grain 300 WBY Mag is a great choice.
If you want to go long range then maybe you should try the 6.5 300 WBY Mag in 127 grain.
