Building my first custom
« on: May 14, 2017, 06:18:23 AM »
I am looking at building a new rifle, as a match shooting and back-up hunting rifle.
Thinking about a savage 116 stainless long action. Shilen heavy sporter stainless barrel. Mc Millan stock.
Was going with a 6.5-284 norma, which I have in my bench rest rifle and really like it, but because this will be a high volume rifle, I have also been looking at the 6.5X55 caliber. It will have a muzzle brake also. I would be keeping the savage barrel nut for ease of changing barrels
I know this is not a Weatherby rifle in any way, but there are some very knowledgeable people on this site and I would appreciate any thoughts and info

Thanks, Mike
Mike

It turns out I wont be building a custom for awhile. Seems my .257 needs to be rebarreled
The groups with the Berger and Sierra loads have almost doubled in size, it still shoots the Barnes load well.
Now I have a question, can I get a #3 accumark barrel threaded for a Vanguard action or do I have to get a custom barrel, looks like I will be calling Weatherby
