Did you ever take the vel of your 270 Win load. Just curious, because I.ve got two 270 Win rifles and am not very impressed with  their velocity.

7mmWea thanks. I've tried H 4831 and get about the same vel as you are getting. I've got a Browning BBR with a 22" tube and a Parker Hale with a 24" tube. With 130 gr bullets the best I can do with the BBR is just under 3000 FT/sec and appx 3040 ft/sec with the Parker Hale.This is using a good variety of different powders suitable for the 270 Win. I was skipping through several shooting sites lately and seen where some guys were claming 3150 ft/sec with 150 gr bullets and RL 26 from a 24" barreled 270 Win. I can't get this with 130 gr bullets.  These velocities are only appx 50 ft/sec under what I get with my 24" barreled 270 Wea mag. I was wondering if I had 2 very slow barrels or something.

Canadian Reloader , with your experience with 270win are you seeing any particular powder working better for you that kinda stands out I know there lotta powders that's used for the old classics I always had good luck with h4831 I know there always something new on market all the time been years since worked up anything else other then the old Hodgon powder kinda like trying teach old dog new trick lol

 I haven't tried any of the really new powders like the new IMR's or the RL 23, or 26 powders. I've tried RL 22 which I've found to be as good as H 4831 or IMR 4831, although no better, depending on the rifle.  I also tried Hybrid 100V and just couldn't get good accuracy with it. My issue with the caliber is over the years I've read of guys getting close to 3200 ft/sec with the 130 gr bullets and now reading of others at 3150 with 150 grs bullets. That just hasn't been the case for me with my 270 Win rifles. With safe pressures I've maxed out at appx 3000 ft/sec with 130 grs bullets and at appx 2850 ft/sec with 150 grainers. Factory loads have been even more dismal. Having said this the caliber has harvested several moose and deer for me, all one shot kills. I guess I was wondering if the #'s i've been reading lately are real or not. I know I can depend on the people on this site for real numbers.

3200 fps with 130's and 3150 fps with 150's seem awful fast for factory 270 Win's. My old tikka M598 with a 22 inch barrel wont do any better than 3000 fps with the 130's and 2800 with the 150's. But I haven't tried the new powders in it, and I probably wont either, because 1) it's been a proven accurate killer for years with the older powders, and 2) I have many pounds of older powders on hand to use up first

Those numbers are generally from a few select powders and in 24" barrels in test labs, or from people stoking their 270Win guns with closer to 70kpsi than 62kpsi in the real world. There are a few, as I said, powders which will give that kind of velocity, right out at the ragged edge of acceptable pressures, in tightly chambered, 24" barrels. Most of the 22" barrels out there are limited to 3000 and change, in my experience.

Don't get me wrong - the 270Win is a great cartridge and I may start my daughter with one, even.

In my 270 Wby Mark V I use the Barnes 130 gr TTSXBT. I use 72.5 gr Reloader 22, with a Federal 215 Mag Primer at a COAL of 3.328. I get 1/2" 3 shot groups at 100 yards when I do my part. If you are going to use this load work up very carefully looking for signs of pressure. This load is safe in my rifle, but may not be in yours.

Just reading this post, i picked up another mark v sporter in 270 wby mag .  Gonna give the enduron powders a go with some e-tips or at least some Hornady 140 btsp and hope for the best.

Nosler brass
Federal GM215 match primers
Barnes 129gr LRX with a BC of .463
Reloder 22--- 72.0gr
COL 3.290--I add a light Lee crimp dye crimp
3425fps and wicked accurate(1/2 MOA easily)

Just bought this it is still nib, plan on getting it going for next season. I did jot that load down and work up to it carefully when i get around to it.
