I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before, but look like the Vanguard Synthetic in 257 wby. mag, 7mm Rem mag, 300 win mag and 300 wby. mag now come with a 26" barrel.

Great news, only too bad they wouldn't include the 270 Wea mag and 7mm Wea mag in the lineup.

Excellent! I have been thinking of buying another S2 so will add another .257 to the stable.

It is a good thing. Itís needed on those calibers. Now if they would only offer the .300H&H magnum as well......26Ē barrel, of course.

The problem with that is the ammo. The hunting ammo of today does stuff that is incredible when it comes to expansion, etc. If you change the twist rate from say a 1 in 10 to a 1 in 8 and all the factory ammo on the market is based on a 1 in 10 then all the ammo has to change too. A good example of this is what's going on with the 224 Valkrie right now.

Be careful when you purchase one.
I looked at one at sportsman warehouse that waa supposed to be the 26" barrel according to their website. It wasn't.

Its possible that the website was correct and they had it in the store but also had the 24's and the employee didn't know squat and showed you the wrong rifle. I buy rifles from Sportsmans but I order them online and then go pick them up. It's a great store for products and lots of advice but their knowledge department is woefully understaffed.

It had the same item number on it. Website said they had it in store.
Item# 1269620

Wasn't planning on getting it. Just wanted to look at the stock and get a feel of the 26" barrel.

Just saying, there are alot of 24" barreled rifles that might get mixed up with the 26" barreled. My sales guy was quick to get the measuring tape out when I mentioned the length. He had no clue about the change over though.

Any idea when Weatherby switched to the 26" barrel for those calibers? I think you're right about there being old stock with the same item number. It pays to be well informed and aware, thanks for letting us know about your experience.

I don't know for sure when they switched. However, their website had 26" listed for the magnum calibers since I started looking at them about two months ago.

Just an FYI.
The new "First Light" model has 26" barrel for non-magnum calibers and 28" barrel for the magnums.
