Weatherby Single Shot
« on: October 09, 2017, 05:34:38 AM »
I would like to see Wby come out with a single shot rifle. Similar to the lines of Ruger or Browning.
I have a custom Ruger #1 in .257 Wby with a 28" barrel that was built in 1992. Even with that long barrel it is still short enough to maneuver in a blind or the aspen groves in the mountains. Look at the prices a Ruger or Browning sells for and people still pay the bucks to own one.

If you are arguing with an idiot and someone passes by, they don't know who's the idiot.

I hope they do!  I am a big fan of Ruger No.1s, and unfortunately they are becoming very expensive to own.  I am lucky enough to have three red pad No. 1s.   ;D

I'm in for a single shot Weatherby! Only have one Ruger No1 in .460 S&W.
Well if they are building a Vanguard varmint rifle in .224 then they may as well do it in a Mark V as well. Thats what I'd want.
Gee looks like the credit card will be taking a hit haha  :o ;D

Chis the .460 S&W is an awesome cartridge in a rifle. I can seat the 275gr Barnes XPB out longer and stuff the case with enough Hodgdon LiL' Gun  that it gets 2600 fps! I have knocked over a few scrub bulls and hogs with that load.
I also worked up a load with the same powder but using the 325gr Barnes Buster that scoots it along at 2400 fps! I am yet to test that load of anything but think I will use it on my next water buffalo hunt.
I would love a .460 S&W in a lever action rifle.

It is a shame that the Marlin lever action cannot handle the pressure of the .460 S&W.  The Browning single shots are made in Japan, aren't they.  Maybe Weatherby could get their Jap friends to come up with a similar single shot action.  There is definitely a "mystique" about a nice looking single shot.  MM

Big Horn Armory do a lever action .460 S&W and also the .500 S&W. But unfortunately no one imports them into Australia. It would cost me quite a bit extra to get them imported too. Maybe one day I will.....
