My .338-378 brought me luck

My .338-378 brought me luck

As most people on here know I have a total love affair with my Accumark .338-378 and it has brought me luck hunting many times.  Well this year it really out did itself bringing me luck.  On Monday, the first day of buck season, I got this beautiful bruiser.  I know some people will claim it's too much gun for white-tailed deer but as I always say it's in the shot placement.  I managed to cause minimal damage, broke two ribs going in and a small exit wound through the brisket by taking the textbook archery shot from a little back from the middle of the body and having the bullet exit the brisket.  Needless to say it dropped like a ton of bricks.  I'm sure it goes without saying but I'm extremely proud of this buck and it has the highest rack out of all the bucks I've ever shot.

My dad used to tell me, "there is no such thing as overkill, but there's nothing worse than being under gunned".

Nice looking buck,Chris. Your in good company as for your choice of caliber. Elmer Keith once wrote that the 300 Win mag with a 250 gr Barnes was a good deer load. So don't feel over gunned.

Nice buck, I hope my new 340 can be as successful as your 338-378 next year.

What a deal! It’s a good feeling indeed to walk up on a buck and realize there will be none of that “ground shrinkage” feeling. Congratulations

Congratulations on a nice buck. What bullet and grain weight were you using?

Way to go Chris, I like the tall tines.
I love the smell of deer guts in the morning, it smells like...VICTORY!

Congrats. Just about any legal round is overkill for whitetail. I wouldn’t worry about being judged about using that cartridge. I have been itching for a .340.
