A friend purchased one and loves it. He has taken deer, hogs, Black bears and a cow elk. They were shot from 30 yards out to 250. He mounted a Leupold vx111 1.75-6. He likes the muzzle brake and the weight of the rifle. His experience with 3 shot groups have been around two inches at 100 yds.
Prior to the availability of this rifle he used a muzzleloader, shotgun with sabots and a lever action 32 special for all his big game hunting. He never shot an animal over 100 yds in his 50 years of hunting before he bought this rifle. He always enjoyed teasing me about my Weatherby’s. He called them ICBM’s. After shooting a deer at 250 yards his opinion changed.

I have a Leupold vx-1 3-9x40. I was going to take it to Idaho not that it would of mattered in the end. I would love to have a turn with his .32 Special. I have seen a few and they were pretty old. Some old timers had them befefore deer were regulated. We too used to just just shotguns and muzzleloaders. Which I still like my muzzlloaders.

DW5:I promised my nephew I would give him my Ruger No 1 in 45-70 after I killed a bear with it so I could use a compact thumper 45 cal to replace it.Maybe another bear hunt or hogs. Buds will probably get an order later this week.Have a bid on a 458 Win Mag that will probably get out of my price range by then.
Chris:Ruger does offer the No 1 in the  450 Bushmaster.

Ah.... I now remember you saying that. And unlike some uncles would,  you are making good on that promise. Again, that is really cool. I too get an itch to replace a nitch in my safe if I find myself suddenly lacking one that had been there. The good thing about it is, whether you get the Bushmaster or the 240Bee, you already know what you are on the lookout for next!

That would be a decent little rifle for bears over bait, where a long shot is under 100 yards.

A friend bought a Ruger American in 6.5 creedmoor ,  I think more of an impulse buy than anything else,  anyway for an inexpensive rifle the thing shoots extremely well at his 600 yd backyard range,  hand loaded of course.   He has a 450 bushmaster on an ar frame he's had it a few years now and seems to like it.  I might consider buying a Ruger American one of these day's.

Nice review.  Roger, Did you, or will you order a 16" or a 20". The 20" No.1 is pretty nice looking with the laminate stock.

I would agree about the No1. That rifle looks like a beast up front and elegantly made in the rear. Kinda like a mullet.

Savage is coming out with a bolt action 450 Bushmaster, too.   :)

Dan: That No 1 is one sharp looking rifle but more coin than I would like to spend on one. I have not  pulled the trigger on anything yet but I think the 16" would fit my needs best for what I would use it for.
