Looking to add a new Weatherby

Looking to add a new Weatherby
« on: January 15, 2018, 12:29:26 PM »
Looking to add a New Weatherby to my collection. I currently have a Weatherby 300 mag Accumark. I am wanting a Weatherby Terramark in either a 270 wby, 7mm wby, or 257 wby. Iím going to be using this particular rifle for whitetail only no more than 250 yds max shots. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Looking to add a caliber to save more meat. Thanks!!

I prefer the 270 and 7mm over the 257, but since you already have a 300 Wby, I would suggest the 257 and loading it with barnes, e-tip, or gmx bullets for less meat damage.  8)

Thanks for the feedback!! Wouldnít a 257 devastate more meat than a 270 or 7mm?

depends on the bullet you use, if you use a monolithic bullet(barnes,e-tip,gmx) in any caliber, you will have less meat damage.

A well placed shot from a 257 Roy will do it. I'm testing the 100gn Swift Scirocco IIs ASAP. I think I will be able to get consistent long-range accuracy with them. To me, long is +350 yards.

I'll add my standard comment. Get a 270Wby. It does everything a 257 will do, just a little faster and with a little more energy downrange. It is the best of the three standard length Weatherby Magnums.

I have a 300 and 257.  If you worry about meat damage, shoot behind the shoulder.  The 257 is a wonderful round.

caliber has little or nothing to do with meat destruction. Bullet selection is the key factor. I am not trying to be rude or anything so please don,t take it that way. Any excuse to buy a new rifle is a good thing. I am a member of the 257wby fan club.

Canít go wrong, all three are absolutely great-proven Cartridges!
You have it narrowed down to three, so I hate to mess with that, however for Whitetail and wanting less meat damage, the 240 Weatherby May deserve some attention also? An absolute hammer on midsize game way out past 250 yds and with the Barnes TTSX you wonít waste much meat! Seeing you have a 300 for the big stuff, I thought Iíd just throw the 240 in the mix and in the Mark V platform a 240 will weigh a full pound less then the other 3 Cartridges.

257wby w/ 100gr TSX

the 257 is much more popular than the 270wby or 7mm WBY
