Looking to add a 6.5-300 wby
« on: January 15, 2018, 03:29:02 PM »
I am either looking at the Vanguard s2 and updating to a wood stock or the new vanguard first lite. Will it make sense to add one to my collection if shots are less than 200 yards? I already have a 240 wby, 270 wby, and 300 wby.

Would it make sense to get a 6.5-300 Wby, when you already have a 270 Wby and 300 Wby, and the shots are under 200 yards?? realisticily nope, it would not. But if want to get another rifle, why not, got for it, never can have too many Weatherby's   8)

Yes, purchase it. I use my 6.5-300 on whitetails in Michigan with shots coming from 50 yds to 300 yds. It’s a fun caliber to shoot. Deer drop like it was hit by lightning. With a muzzle brake it scares anyone hunting near me. Remember, buying a new rifle has nothing to do with “need”. All you have to do is want it.

If you are arguing with an idiot and someone passes by, they don't know who's the idiot.

Probably be awhile before some are available. You might call Weatherby next week and ask when they will be available. One of the ladies came here asking about trying to find a Camilla and Weatherby told her where there was one available close to her.Hopefully they will do the same for you.

I was thinking about doing the same thing you described. I perused around the internet but haven't seen any 6.5-300 vanguards in stock or even listed for that matter yet.

Then I rethought the project and am now leaning towards doing a Mark V with a 26" barrel. I really think that extra 2" will shine in something like a 6.5-300.

So to add to my previous post, looks like the Vanguard Wilderness model is offered in 6.5-300 with a 26" barrel. Not a wood stock but cool. $799 here: www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/mobile/Weatherby-Vanguard-Wilderness-Rifle/productDetail/Rifles/prod99999048680/cat100003

Also offered in Accuguard for another $100 with same barrel length.

Haha I think I'm going that route and updating the stock to walnut with a black tip with white line spacer to make it look like a deluxe stock.

well... I just ordered the one on the link you sent me from Buds. I've bought several things from them in the past with good luck.

I've upgraded a couple of Vanguard series 1 stocks from plastic to walnut as well as a Mark V. Hopefully this one will be as easy as those.

BTW - you and I must think alike. I too have a 240, 270, & 300 Wby. In addition I have a 257 & 7mm Wby.

Now I can add 6.5-300 to that list.

I just need a 224 to complete my collection quest (up to and counting 300).

Awesome!! I'll keep you updated on my wood stock search. I'll probably wait until next month or so to start that search.

Do you handload? I'm starting to look for some dies. MidwayUSA doesn't appear to have any yet. Or I suck at the internet.

Update: Found some at Midway... Best deal so far looks to be Brownells - $62 for RCBS 2 die set.
