Problems with new 6.5-300

Problems with new 6.5-300
« on: January 20, 2018, 02:27:30 PM »
Wonder if anyone can help, I have a friend in Tennessee who purchased a new Weatherby Mark V in the 6.5-300 Cal.  After shooting 20 rounds of factory ammo, the bolt locked up and could not be opened.  He returned the rifle back to Weatherby supposedly under warranty.  Weatherby replied that it was his fault for shooting reloads.  I can attest that this fellow, first of all would not lie, I have been shooting with him for years, and secondly, he does not reload for that caliber, doesn't even own the dies to do so. If anyone has any advise, we would appreciate it.

Thank you!

So they said he shot reloads and sent the rifle back to him?

Sorry... Yesterday was the last and final day for any and all complaints whatsoever.

Need more info !   Why would it lead Weatherby to believe he was using re-loads ?  There is always 2 or more sides to a story.  It wouldn't be the first or last time there was ammo or rifle issues in the general weapons industry not to single out Weatherby.   We don't know the complete story to base any opinions on.  Was the rifle damaged or anything else ?

Weatherby still has the rifle, they will not fix nor will they send it back unless he signs some sort of waiver or release of liability if he chooses to have it fixed somewhere else.  I can assure you he did not fire any reloads or anything but factory ammo thru it.  I will find out what rounds he was firing, but I don't know where they would get the notion that he was using anything but factory ammo.

There was when he sent it back, couldn't get the bolt open.  I will get the info on the load as soon as I can get ahold of him.

Well if theres a spent case in the chamber. They can tell if its a factory load or a reloaded round.
To me it means it over heated and seezed up. Surprized it didnt open once it cooled down.
But I wouldnt sit down and shoot off a full box in any weatherby rifle. There just to hot for that sort of thing.

Aside from a very hot chamber and bolt face or overcharged loads, I don't know what would cause factory ammo to stick a bolt closed. I'm interested to learn what caused it.
