Son - Vanguard2 257 WBY
Me - 257 WBY Ultralight
Both shot 115 BST

We burned points last fall and had a great DIY trip.  He's in school in Colorado, so we went late during his fall break.  After tagging out, we spent a couple of days fly fishing the Miracle Mile.

Congrats to you and your son for tagging out on a DIY antelope hunt. I'd say your son is a pretty good fly fisherman too.

Well done to both.  Did you guys eat the fish, or is it catch & release?

I don't recall what the fish rules were, but we released.  Yes, son is a good fly fisherman.  Much better than dad. haha.  We were in unit 74 for the goats.  I had 9 points and he had 5, so we went in together.

Great pics! I'm in the midst of planning a DIY hunt this year in WY with my wife and son. I haven't made a decision yet on exactly what type of .257 load to take, but I was thinking 110gr Accubond. What led you to the 115 BST? Glad it worked for you!

With the exception of a couple years, I have always combined my Wyoming hunt with 2-3 days of Flyfishing. Big Buffalo carp in a steam flowing into a small reservoir.
Small stream trout, larger rivers for throwing 6” streamers for big browns and rainbows  (5-11lb.) and even 15-20” walleyes. 28 years ago a giant pike, for Wyoming, on Keyhole reservoir. I released it and figure it weighed over 15 lbs. I’ve caught dozens of pike in Michigan that were 20 lbs.plus so a good educated guess on this Wyoming pike. I caught it on a 2” stonefly in two feet of clear water casting to a small school of rainbows.
Please do some flyfishing in Wyoming. It’s just the ticket to relax at a fishing cottage to heal the body after hunting or before the hunt to get acclimated to the elevation difference.
