.340 WBY load data needed
« on: January 30, 2018, 10:14:50 AM »
hello - I'm new to the forum. Am a fan of WBY chambered rifles......have a .257 WBY, .270 WBY, an a .340 WBY all custom built guns!
So the .340 was built to shoot Factory made Weatherby ammo - 210 Nosler Partitions. This particular ammo was discontinued by WBY. It shot that factory load at .350" at 100 yards.

I have decided to start reloading for this rifle and want to know if anybody has that particular recipe. I also want load data for a good long range target/hunting round.....out to 1,000 yards.

Thanks in advance.

To say I love the 340 would be an understatement! If it was legal Down Under to marry my rifle I would lol.
She gets fed on a strict diet of 86 grains of AR2213sc (H4831) or 86 grains of RE19 behind the 225 grain TSX projectile.
That food keeps her trim and fast with plenty of knock down power way out yonder.
Aussie gun nut.

My rifle likes IMR-4831, 83 grains, and 225 TTSX bullets, federal mag 215 primers
It is a modified BB340 load 😎

My factory rifle shot that ammo equally well and was a hammer on deer and elk. I’ve tried really hard to duplicate the 210 partition load...unsuccessfully.  I could match velocity or accuracy, but never both at the same time.  Love to hear who cracked the code...I always figured it was in the crimp.

210 part. 94g RL26 F 215 p, new WBY. brass, 3.635 oal, 3200fps, 1/2 to 3/4 in. groups. I recommend starting lower and working up as your chamber may be tighter.

Nosler lists the most accurate load they tested is 81.5 grains of RL19, a Federal 215 primer, and the 210 grain Partition.  In my experience with loading Nosler bullets I've found that the loads they list as most accurate many times are very accurate in my rifles.
Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt.

I use new weatherby brass, 215 match primer, 86 gr of RL 22, 250 partition. My barrel uses a standard weatherby throat on a Douglas premium 26" #4 contour. 1 in groups at 100, mv is 3050 fps. Start lower before working up. JM
