220 Rocket

220 Rocket

Flipping through the 2018 Nosler Catalog last night, I was reading through the 22 Nosler section and glancing at the 22 Nosler vs 22 Valkyrie comparisons and seeing these 70, 85, & 90 grain LR offerings in 22 cal, had me thinking it'd be a great time for Weatherby to bring back the 220 Rocket. With todays powders and long range high BC bullet offerings, Weatherby could not only have the fastest 22 center fire on the market, they could release it with a fast twist to handle these new bullets that most of your 22-250, 220 Swifts can not, and set itself apart by more then just speed.
I know its a crowded caliber, however with the Nosler and Valkyrie being suited for the AR world, and most 22-250's, 220 Swifts, and 223 WSSM's more then likely not handling the new LR bullets, they would have something that would definitely intrigue me, how about you guys?

Interesting idea!  Like you said, a crowded field !  I think I would wait see which of the new ones survive.  :)

Or even bringing back the 224 Weatherby.  ;D ;D  I would figure out a way to get one. :)

I would certainly love to see the 224 offered again also, just doubting we'll ever see it, would definitely buy one though.

Just thought the 220 Rocket or like previously mentioned on the Nation a 20-224 with fast twist barrels would perhaps thrive in the long range craziness that's going on these days and get Weatherby back in the varmint segment with a bang!

Would much rather see the 20-224 myself.Notice how everyone is peeling back from the big powder charge 22s for the AR platform. They could be dead in the water if the AR get shit canned.Too much throat erosion too quick in the Rocket.I've got 4 original Rockets.Lots of old data by Roy about pushing 50 grain pill just at 4400FPS or a tad below. They go 400 yards real quick.
Sorry... Yesterday was the last and final day for any and all complaints whatsoever.

I try to avoid temptation unless I can't resist it.

Let's wait until Weatherby gets moved and settled. I'm sure they've got enough on their plates for the moment.

What date will we be able to post suggestions to Weatherby?

That 20-224 could potentially be a sweet little round. Wouldn’t be crazy overbore, yet, has the case capacity to outduel the 204 and if they could get Sierra, Berger, Nosler, etc to build something like a 50-55 gn or more high bc bullet, they could twist the barrel a bit faster then what most 204’s have and really have something in a much less crowded caliber range. With the BC’s the little 32 and 40 gn 204 Bullets have, bumping up to 50-60gn’s could really extend the range of the little 20 cal and make Praire Dogs nervous a long ways out there! ;D

Can you tell I’m whining and just want Weatherby back in the Varmint world yet? :'(

no reason to IMO but if they did,

they should go a new route and standardize the .22-250 AI

Cool round, however it wouldn’t scratch my itch and get me to stop complaining if it didn’t end with “Weatherby Magnum”!
I love my 204 and 223 WSSM, just don’t get that same sensation out and about when I’m not carrying a Wby round and really don’t like dragging my 224 through the paces.
