Next Nation rifle: Vanguard S2 in .340 Wby Mag
« on: April 11, 2018, 02:07:48 PM »
I was wanting to try and get some of the important people’s attention at Weatherby and see if they would consider chambering a few standard Vanguard rifles in .340 Wby Mag as the next Nation Rifle. I don’t know if they would consider it or not?
I didn’t get in the last “Nation Rifle” because I was late to the game. I look at my 6.5-300 as a “Nation Rifle”. What do you guys think?

I have thought about this before the latest thread but thanks to it the idea peaked my intrest again.
When I mean standard I mean a standard S2 with a 26” barrel.

Why not buy a used Mark V in a 340 for the same money as a S2?Aint no one gonna wear one out.If you buy one as new in the box you'd be getting more quality for your money.
Sorry... Yesterday was the last and final day for any and all complaints whatsoever.

I try to avoid temptation unless I can't resist it.

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film.

I never have seen a Mark V in .340 for $495-$650.
I would think it would be a relatively low cost venture for Weatherby. If they don’t for some reason sell lets say 100 somewhat a limited edition rifle at a much lower cost than their Mark V action rifles to members as a “Nation Rifle” I am sure they won’t be sitting on shelves at a gun store long and no money would be loss. The price of the Vanguard rifles are very attractive especially in a Weatherby caliber.

After shipping and and transfer still cheaper. Do do you think Weatherby is going to round up used rifles for a nation rifle, no. I am talking about a new manufactured rifle, it being chambered in .340 wby mag, made for a few of us here and limited public. The cheapest way for Weatherby to do this is with a standard Vanguard. I am not interested in buying a new to me rifle chambered in it.

With the very limited number of Member Nation rifles they sold when they did it I highly doubt it'll happen again any time soon.  If they did do it I don't think the .340 has much of a chance of being picked for the caliber since there's a relatively small number of people who would buy it because the smaller calibers are more popular because the ammo is some what cheaper and a lot of people fell they don't need a caliber that big and or the recoil is excessive.  Don't get me wrong I would like to see it happen but I don't think it will.
Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt.

I don't think it will happen in a special run, like the next Nation rifle, but it might surface as a Vanguard in the future as the 340 wby. has gained interest in recent years.

The 340 is a kind of specialty cartridge and it only appeals to those who want more than the 338 Winchester. I would however choose it over the 338 lapua myself but at this stage in life I have no use for either. IMO the Nation rifle was a cluster F... and  I believe  Weatherby learned a huge lesson on how to and how not to go about another if it where to ever happen.

Although not an ideal solution, you could buy a Vanguard in a 300 Weatherby and then rebarrel/rechamber to a 340 Weatherby. You could then turnaround and sell the 300 Weatherby barrel.

Again, not an ideal solution, but if you REALLY wanted a Vanguard 340 Weatherby...
