Question for you Savage 99 owners.

I was watching a Savage 99 in 300 Savage that was made in 1923. The stock has the white spacers at the pistol grip and butt plate. Did these older rifles come like this or do you think someone has put a different stock on it? I think it really looks nice on there. Anyone knowledgeable on the 99?

Savage 99's been around for a long time and no doubt many variations,  If I find out anything I will post,  great rifles gave my son a primo condition  old 300 savage lightweight,  I keep asking him if he will trade that rifle back to me,  yea right , at least I can use it any time I want.  Shot his first elk with it.

I texted a friend that has 6 different calibers in the Savage 99 and he says none of them have white spacers.

Thanks for the replies so far, looks like it's going to be coming to my house. I just acquired it on Gunbroker. It's a takedown rifle, if that makes any difference.

The later 1960 models came with a monticarlo style stock before they stopped making them. That one looks like a after market Bishop stock.
The stock splits out threw the wrist area if you put too much side pressure on them. I rebuilt the stock on the one I had to keep it original since it had split on both sides and couldn't find an original.
I would just shoot it and enjoy it as it is.

I own 3 model 99's and I love them.  One of mine does have this same detail but the other two do not.  Enjoy the 99 along with your other guns.

My Dad had on chambered in .358 Winchester and it had a case hardened lever, gold trigger, jeweled bolt, and shell counter on the left side.  I remember when I was a kid I thought that was so cool and wish he never sold it.  I'd love to find it and buy it back.  I also wish they'd make them again.  The prices they're asking for them now is insane.

Got the rifle. Truck driver, you were right, (good call) it's got a Bishop stock, at least that's what the butt plate has on it. It's really in good shape for a 1923 rifle. I can't say the same for the scope. It looks like it's from the 20's too, the crosshairs are kind of squiggly. No markings as to the manufacturer.
