.224 Valkyrie

I wonder if Weatherby will add this caliber to the Vanguard line? It seems to be getting a lot of interest and there are few bolt guns available. It might be a good time to get ahead of the pack and make some money. I would buy one today!

pretty sure the .22-250 may already be chambered and will smoke the .224 val and WAY more popular.

the 224 val only benefit may be in ar15 platform rifle cartridges, but even in the setup I fail to see the benefit.

The 224 Valkyrie is designed around a 90 grain match bullet. Until there is a 80-90 grain hunting bullet, I doubt there will be much interest in something so specialized when the market is flooded with speciality rifles. A rebarreling job can take care of the job if a 223 or 22-250 Rem isn’t enough for someone’s desires.

+1 on the interest in a bolt .224.  I just built one on an AR 15 lower and it is a fun shooter.  I also shoot .223 and 22-250 but .224 just scratches that long range low recoil itch better.  90 grain sierra match kings from a 26” Weatherby would be irresistible.

The 224Valkyrie is one more in a long line of cartridges which answers a question few (if any) are asking, IMO. Sure, it will send a 90gr bullet out at decent velocity, but there are precious few 90gr options, fewer still uses for those options, and far better cartridges with which to shoot paper or animals at longer ranges already popularly entrenched in use. It will sell, some, and then it will do like so many others (among them, many 'better mousetraps' for the AR15 platform, even) and fade to obscurity, eventually becoming hard to source.

The reality is, if you want to do it with an AR, and it can't be done in .224cal using a 5.56, there are far better options for doing it more readily available and more easily sourceable.

But, hey, if folks want to play around with it, knock yourselves out. I have a couple of rare/obsolete rounds in my safe, and love them. But as a business decision, I'd think Weatherby would be better suited to chamber their Vanguard in 223Wylde rather than any other variants.

If I just wanted to run a 90 fast I’d run a GMX out of my 257@3600.  Already doing that.  The interest to me is running a high BC bullet in a cartridge designed for it and twisted fast enough to stabilize it.  Yes I know you can replace barrels in any number of larger capacity 22’s and get more speed, but the valkyrie is interesting to me because it’s purpose built to fill a niche.  Much like 6.5 CM.  Not a new concept but designed to do it well.  JMO.
