Colorado Big Game Draw Results have been posted and my son and Buddy drew cow tags in 76, looks like I will be manning the spotting scope and binoculars. Next year I should draw a plains archery deer tag in 103 and a cow tag in 76.

No over the counter deer permits?  In any case, enjoy the trip!   :)

I plan on checking for leftover (unclaimed) 2nd rifle elk tags first and then may try for a deer tag if available.

Staying in a Davis tent, which has been upgraded to a propane furnace since last year. It was a pain keeping the wood burning stove going last year. The spruce logs only burnt for a couple hours and the chimney screen was plugged with creosote by the next morning every night.

Good luck to all of you during your hunt. You forgot to mention you'll also be manning the frame pack. I know you'll enjoy your time in the woods. Here's a pic of the heater we use out west, works fantastic.

Might get lucky and not have to pack them out, where we are hunting in many areas you can use your 4 wheeler to go directly from the marked trail to the animal to retrieve it. But if you get caught without a downed animal or in the wrong area, you lose your wheeler. Last year where I was seeing the elk, it took 45 minutes of driving to get close to them. Nice looking setup, I haven't seen the stove yet my buddy bought.

What rifle are you planning on taking? I would change my mind a dozen times before going on a trip like that, then end up taking my original idea.  ;D

I was checking out my cousins Caring Bridge site and for some reason it took me to my email trash. I noticed a receipt for my Preference Point for plains deer hunting and then went looking for my rejection for a 2nd rifle cow tag in CO. GMU 76 and to my surprise I found out I had been drawn. Someone in heaven was smiling down on me!!! Thank You Jean!!!

As someone who has hunted 76 before and after the 2013 complex fire I would like to say congrats on the draw. I will offer a little advice about hunting the ATV retrieval ares. First, on your way through Del Norte, stop at the Divide ranger district office, ( on the south side of Hwy 160 as you first come in to Town), and get the latest map that shows the game retrieval areas. There is a lot of unit 76 that is off limits to ATV retrieval and it keeps shrinking.  The fire really changed a lot of the unit, thousands of acres of nothing but scorched earth. It is coming back, so thick you can't walk or see into it. Hunting in the ATV area is tough as that is where most of the hunters will be.. Don't be afraid to venture into the other areas as there will be fewer hunters and a little less pressure. Last but not least, make time to stop at Freemans store and have a cheeseburger and waffle fries, best around.. I wish you safety and good hunting..
BTW, My wife and I drew 2nd season cow tags for unit 67, just north of 76.
Take care
Ed
