After looking at LOTS of pictures of Mark V Alaskan's, I'm convinced my stock is an Alaskan stock. I'm just dying to see how it shoots this Sunday!!!!!

I personally, have never seen an Mark V Alaskan, just heard about them, they were not that common here.  But after doing a little research, I would agree with you about your stock.  8)

Welcome to the Nation, and congratulations on acquiring a nice Mark V in what I believe is the perfect clambering for anything in North America, except the great bears. My 270Wby is my favorite rifle, for sure. Enjoy!

Well, I went to the range, and it was both good & bad! The good - The gun was flawless, perfectly manageable recoil, functioned 100%, and that gun has the sweetest trigger I've ever shot!!! Now for the bad, the scope's windage turret is screwed up. I made 1 shot at 100 yards (couldn't get a spot at the 25 yard range), not even on paper. The guy next to me told me I hit the dirt to the left of the target. So I aimed at the far right of the target board, at a little orange sticker that was there about 16"-18" to the right of the bullseye. This time I hit about 1" above the bullseye. I make my adjustments 1/4" a click at 100 yards. I adjust for 12" just to see if I'm on paper....nope. Adjust for 2" more nope, 2" more nope, finally 2" more and that felt like that was as far as the adjustment would go. Still hitting in the exact same spot, to the left of the target. So I start aiming at the little orange dot way to the left of the board, and it's hitting in the exact same spot as the first time I aimed way right. I moved to the 50 yard target, and got the exact same results. The scope never changed its point of impact, even after all of those adjustments. The good news is it's a Leupold, and I can send it in for service!!! Last night I went over the gun and made sure all of the screws were not loose, and everything was good. I'm pretty disappointed, as I was hoping to shoot some nice groups. Although, the one group I did get by aiming way right at the orange sticker was pretty good. I'm sure Leupold will make things right with the scope. I absolutely love the gun, I could have shot it all day long, the recoil was not bad at all, and that trigger was awesome :)

Bummer on the scope but it sounds like the rifle will be a good shooter.Hopefully Leupold will do a quick turnaround.

Stinks to hear about the scope. I know what a bummer unforeseen optic problems can be with a new gun. Good news is it sounds like the gun itself is a shooter. Like Terminator said, hopefully Leupold gives you a quick turnaround.

Firedawg, I would go to two piece bases and rings or Talleys those one piece bridge mounts only have 3 screws holding it to receiver. I have had back screw shear and also a had a 300 WBY rip the rear ring out of the base. If the screws are locktited and the heads strip out drill the heads off and then you can separate the rings. I believe you said in first post the other person couldn't get screws out. Good luck.

+1 on going with the Talleys

I got the scope off, but the first mount screw I tried just about stripped out. I sprayed them with WD40 and will let them sit, then spray them again in the morn, and try again after work. I am going to take your advice, and get the Talley rings & bases. I just hope I can get the screws out!!!

Firedawg, take a drill bit the size of screw head and drill just deep enough to take head off, then the base will lift off and you can take the remaining threaded part out with pliers or small vice grip. The WD 40 will do nothing to help. Hopefully they didn't use permanent Lock tite. I have had to use this procedure more than once. A cobalt bit works the best, a cheap imported bit may not cut it.

WD40 is a waste of time, it won't do nothing, the only way to soften up lock tite is by apply heat(500+ degrees) or an industrial solvent. Both ways will be hard on your rifle. If you do end up stripping the screw, you will have to drill the head off, and maybe be lucky enough to get the rest out with vise grips. If the screw breaks off flush, then you will have to drill it all out and re tap the thread in the rifle.

I'm gonna give the screws a try tonight, hopefully they don't strip out!!!!! I'm assuming I'll probably need high Talley rings due to the objective lens being 50mm?
