Damn BB. That would put some hurt on any and everything. :o

Sure does Roger. Have only shot 2 scrub bulls with it but sure did sort them out! Hopefully a nice big old dugga boy will find his way into my crosshairs to test them out once I am in Africa in 70 days....

I've had good results with IMR 4350 with both the 500 gr hornday RNSP and TSX up to 2600 +fps. But the load I settled on is using CF8506(Canadian surplus powder), 500 gr tsx @ 2400fps. The reason I settled on that load is it will shoot to the exact same POI as both factory 500 gr loads, and it's very accurate. All three loads will shoot 1/2-3/4 moa in my rifle. I figured you don't need much more than that for anything walking on this planet.  8)

Yup BB - am an Aussie.

Only used 2213SC and 09 as I had some there - although prefer the 2213SC for my 300 and 257 WM's.

Have found 80gns of 2213SC behind 180 accubond or 168BST to work great in the 300, and 69gn 2213SC behind a 100gn Ballistic tip in the 257.

Always happy to try something else though.

The only real surprise I have had with the 460 is recoil. Took it to St Marys indoor range, and 500gn loads off the bench were manageable, with less muzzle flip than my 300 Lazermark (with no brake). The 300gn BT's were pleasant to shoot indeed. I have bought some 300gn Barnes to try also - will load the same as the BT's to start.

Love this big bore stuff.

Good to see another Aussie on here ASF!

Yes I use 2213sc in my .257, .300 and .340 weatherbys. It is a great powder for them.
I tried both 2209 and 2213sc in the .460 and got good results. But as us handloaders do I had a play with 2206H and got better results.

Yeah I too find the recoil of the .460 manageable. Those 300 grain BT's would be great fun to use on pigs. Might load some up myself and give em a whirl.

Yup - also got some Barnes 300gn pills they make for the SOCOM round - Barnes (who responded to my e-mails) said they were not designed for 460 speeds, but even if the petals came off, the solid core would remain. Have not loaded these yet though.

I do think the 300BT's are worth a crack!

Do you know what velocity you are getting with the 300gr BT's?

I think the 300gr Barnes pills would be great for pigs, deer, donkeys etc. They would penetrate a bit before the petals came off, then they would to more damage, whilst the as you say the core will continue to penetrate.

You have any plans to hunt big critters with your .460?

I've only used mine on 2 scrub bulls but off to Africa in September to use it on a Cape Buff.

Never put it over a chrono - just looked at the ADI reloaders guide - which had 350gns - high was 128 of AR2213, and low I think 115? Thought e pretty safe with lighter pill at 125.

There are absolutely no pressure signs, so yes, think could up it.

Just want a general purpose load.

Once I get properly familiar with it, first big shoot will be to NT after Buffalo. Was thinking of simply using factory ammo for them rather than taking reloads?

Well without sounding rude ASF, why go to all the trouble of working up reloads only to use factory ammo on your hunt?
There is nothing better than taking a big game animal like water buffalo with ammo you have hand rolled yourself.
If you have your load working consistently and are accurate I say load your rifle up with them and go get your trophy buff!
By the way how's about posting some pics of the big girl. All the guys, well and girls on here love a bit of gun porn lol.

that's a fair call - I thought only of availability, and Weatherby ammo is of great quality.

All my life I've used handloads. Indeed in a former shooting life I shot benchrest for the SSAA Australian team around the world, and you could not buy ammo for the BAT PPC I shot, and have never run a factory round through my 257 or 300's.

Only contemplated the factory stuff for Buff, but, gee I reckon the Swift A frames would go hard!

Ill try to get some pics - have never taken one of the 460 yet. Have of other Mk5's thou

Well one positive side of running factory ammo is that you are pretty much guaranteed they will be reliable. As long as you have tested them and sighted your rifle in with them. You would probably only need a packet or two. The Swift A-Frame would sort the biggest buffalo out.
But if it were me, I'd be using my own reloads.

That is a great photo of your lego spaceship... not sure if there are any lego fans on here though haha  ;D

I've been thinking of making some light loads with Hornady's 350 grain round nose bullets for a cheaper way to shoot it.  I have a Leupold 2x7x33 on mine because if I decide to hunt deer with it we have to make sure a buck has three points on one side to be legal.
Nothing is better than a Weatherby, big bore magnum, or a Colt.
