Any current or former 1000 yard Benchrest shooters here on the Nation? What rifle and caliber were used, or built to compete? (if any) New World Record below:

I'd be happy with a one foot group at 1,000 yards. Impressive!
I love the smell of deer guts in the morning, it smells like...VICTORY!

With a detailed rifle rest set up like that, does the shoulder have to touch the butt stock, or can you be away from the stock as you pull the trigger?

You need to hold the rifle somewhat, it is free to recoil. The pedestal and bag in the rear will help the rifle to track straight back and forward again for speed of getting on target again with minor or no adjustments. You want to put as many rounds down range as you can before conditions change once your on target.

If you shoot as well as you say you do, he doesn't have a chance!

I used to live in Cascade Township in Pa. That is the home of the original 1000 yard range. The property is owned by good friends of mine. It was not unusual to see deer feeding down range during a match. They shot everything there up to 50 cal. they discontinued the 50's after a few bullets made it through the backstop and continued past the range. I never got that bug thankfully as it would have driven me crazy and probably broke. LOL!! Great bunch of guys and Gals there. Fun to watch and occasionally a friend would let me put one down range.

did you know that is the range that made the 7mm/300wby famous? In the 70,s the 7mm/300 won many 1000 yard matches.

They also used and experimented with the wildcat 6.5-300 Weatherby Wright Hoyer cartridge.
