Vanguard Ring hight for 50 mm objective

Vanguard Ring hight for 50 mm objective
« on: August 30, 2018, 04:37:26 AM »
Have a 30-06 Vanguard VGD with a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x50. I am not happy with the weaver look through scope rings. I know that high rings are recommended for the 50mm objective scopes but some rifles will work with medium rings, Has anyone here been able to use the medium rings on the vanguard with a 50 MM objective?

I tried the medium Leupold rings on one of my Vanguards with a 4-12x50 Redfield scope but it just didn't quite fit. Had to use high rings.

The problem is often not so much the objective distance from the barrel but rather eyepiece clearance at the rear. I put a Swarovski VX5 on my 270 and had to go to high rings to get enough clearance for the eye piece. I don't like the Objective being so high off center of bore particularly with this scope since it is a long distance scope and zeros at 200 yards. I could move the scope back and get away with medium rings but then I run the risk of getting off the cheek piece or getting scoped.

I have a 50mm scope on one of my Vanguards, and I used Talley's high rings.  The rings don't look too high at all.  Call Talley, and they'll be able t help you out with the specific rings for your rifle.
